I picked up the 2.5 lux in my profile for 3k. Been using it for 10 months with only minor things that needed doing.

Admitedly it needs it's valve guides doing now but I can't imagine there's a greater risk of finding that that needs doing on a 944 than any other engine.

The 924 range is pretty small

Basic 924 2ltr vw/audi engine 120 bhp
can be had for as little as £500 prices and condition vary !

924 Turbo 2ltr vw/audi with turbo 170 bhp
Gearboxs are a weak point

924S 2.5 ltr(detuned 944 engine) 150 bhp
924s Lemans2.5 ltr 162 bhp, basicaly the 944S is just a narrow bodied 944 but less desirable !

924 Carrera GT & GTS rare homologation specials, prices start around the £10k mark. Engines are turbo 2 ltr vw/audi units but much fettled, 210bhp in GT and 280bhp in GTS form.

er...at the risk of stating the obvious, how about the pistonheads classifieds? and putting an entry in the "wanted" section

the first posted reply makes excellent sense. For not too much more money than a decent 924 you can get a decent 944 - bigger engine, better suspension set-up, looks meatier, for the snobs out there a "proper" porsche. Having started on a 924 myself and moved "up", the 944 does seem to raise a broader grin....

There's always a few 924's, 924S's & 944's on ebay. Plenty of spares for sale on there too.

I bought my 924S through the autotrader last weekend. However, over the past couple of months I had been checking various sites including the exchange and mart. I found typing 'Porsche 924S for sale' and similar variations into Google came up with a few hits too.

found mine looking through the usual places, autotrader, E&M, ebay etc. in the end it was via autotrader.

had my 924S since march, great little run about, quite scarce now and i think great value. went for a 924S over a 944 because i fealt it was a better value buy. hey for £2k can't complain.

A bad 924 is a shocking thing; good only at parting you from shiversome amounts of money for precious little enjoyment in return.

Most of these pretty, if woefully underpowered, little things are now worn smooth ruins firmly in banger territory. If you must have one, you ought to find a good one in Porsche Post (The PCGB club magazine)
