This is the scenario: bumping into a car that's a company car. Other car has a couple of small dents (2cm squared, not too deep). Low speed and neither driver injured and there were no passengers.

Other driver has to call his/her company car company as per procedure. They will send out an assessor shortly. My question is, what would be the normal procedure? Would the assessor call me directly with the cost of repairing the damage or would he go to my insurance company?

Another curiosity is if the accident was registered with the police (but no one came down because we were happy to deal with it ourselves) would this automatically be passed on to the relevant insurance companies?

THanks all.

PS - Sorry this is a boring first post. I will make up for it - promise.

It will automatically go through the insurance if my experience is anything to go by.

Is there any penalty if you are not able to contact the insurance company until a week after the accident?

Crucifixion? First offence?

wink & hehe

If you don't get in touch with your insurance company before the insurance company of the car you hit contact them, you'll get a snotty letter from your insurance company saying they've been contacted by the other party's insurance.

They might possibly also ask - any reason for the delay? So I will ask now 'cos we are all nosey parkers smile .

In my company there's a demand that you inform them immediately.

I've no idea what would happen if you didn't.

I didn't inform my insurance company of an accident that the wife had for over a week, we were waiting for the other person to get a quote to see if it was viable to just pay for it ourselves, it wasn't so we went thorough insurance and the lateness of reporting it wasn't an issue.

Had a guy reverse into my company car once, it knocked my front bumper off and broke it. He immediately got out and said he'd pay for it and that he'd only just got his car fixed after a similar accident. rolleyes

So I let him talk to my fleet department and as far as I know they took his money and repaired my car.
