Sikaflex

Tried the search function but it just gave up on me, anyway my S is going for paint at the end of the month and I want to avoid removing the screen and getting a paint edge up against the seal to the screen, so my plan is to cut back the seal so that the paint can be sprayed around the lip/edge and then re-seal, but which sealer to use??

I assume Sikaflex (or similar) but which one?? I don't need to bond anything but do need to seal the edge of the screen and it needs to workable so that I can get a decent finish.

Any and suggestions welcome including stupid and/or outrageous ones as long as they make me laugh

Tigerseal is very similar to Stikaflex but more avaliable at motor factors

Sikaflex 221 is the one I use. Usually available on eaby.

Dare I suggest windscreen sealant ? My local motor factor sells it in tubes.

If you are going to the expense of a respray, why not take the screens out? I've just been quoted 50 quid to take out front and rear screens on my vixen and refit them when i'm ready. I'll then get new rubbers fitted at the same time. Yopu'll probably spend 20 quid plus on sealant.

Well I have been quoted £85.00 plus VAT and it's at my own risk, was told that no one will guarantee removal without damage and I'm not sure where I would get a replacement or at what cost (the S2 is bonded in not rubbered) hence the cut out and re-seal

I used Tiger seal last time, around a tenner a tube, Caravan shops are good sources also, thats the last time i saw Sikaflex on the shelf.
Either or either will work, silicone sealer isnt strong enough as the seals blow off when getting a lick on!

I found a polyurethane sealer (same as most?) called Stixall from Toolstation to be ideal c£6 a tube

Sikkaflex is an adhesive/sealant. Sticks like the proverbial. Available from most good Yacht Chandlers if you are in coastal Devon.

Sikaflex 291 is the correct one to go for. A tube cost me £14.48 including postage from Amazon earlier in the year.

Also have a look for sudaflex. Its the same stuff as sikaflex (made in same factory!) but cheaper. I sell it to the trade and they use it on all sorts where they need a stronger bond than silicone.

Dear yodal, your vixen screens will be held in by rubber seals, the S in question has a bonded in screen, hence the reluctance to remove it
