My Car History

My car history so far at 19 years old.

At 17 i bought a 1998 BMW E36 318is with just 32,000 miles as a project to restore to concourse condition. When i bought the car it had been sat on a driveway for a couple of years so it was obviously green mouldy and in need of a good clean up. Over a period of about 12 months i totally stripped the car and rebuild it bit by bit. Taking all parts off, cleaning and powder various bits however all the body work and interior is still original.

I still own the car now having won various concourse competitions such as the BMW Car Club NW regional car of the show and 3rd at the BMW national concourse event at Gaydon.

Unfortunately due to my age i was unable to insure the car in my name to drive every day. Just after my 18th birthday i bought a 2003 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Design as a daily driver.



I kept the car for 6 months when i found my next car, this was a 2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXI Irmscher Limited Edition.



I kept that car for 6 months then bought my new car a week after my 19th Birthday. This is 2012 BMW 1 Series Coupe M Sport Plus Edition

How did you get insured on a 12 plate bmw being 19 and living in liverpool?

Can't get insured on an old E36 but can get insured on a brand new 1-series....Makes sense!

how come you can insure a 1 series Msport Coupe at 19

let alone afford to buy one and run it

E36's are the preserve of drug dealers, track racers and hooligans. The 1 Series is the preserve of hairdressers and estate agents. Go figure!*

Love the E36, it looks fantastic now. Do you get to drive it much at all?

Also what engine is in the 1 series? 118d? Looks good.

I think there is a bit of a miss understanding, at 17 I couldn't get insured on the E36 purely because I had only had my licence for 1 month, didnt have any no clams discount and was only 17.

I am now 19, had my licence for a couple of years and built up a years no claims, this made a huge difference! I could now insure the E36 to drive if I want.

Believe it or not, it's actually cheaper for me to insure the new 1 series than my corsa. I have been told that upto 21 insurance companies use a system which also looks at how many people my age have had claims in a 1 series coupe. The corsa was more to insure this year as threre is a lot of people my age crashing them.

Thanks, the E36 is in the garage at home. I only drive it to the shows in the summer so not much at all.

The 1 series is a 118D

thats cleared that up

although if you afford a 1 series coupe then the cost of insurance isn't really a big issue
