Just seen this on the news this morning: www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-10477603,00.html

quote:
Quote:
Thousands more speed cameras are needed to police Britain's roads, a Commons select committee reported on Wednesday.

In a special report, the Transport committee, which slammed the Government's 10-year transport plan last month, spoke of the "slow progress" of Government policy on road traffic speeds.

The report recommended that steps should be taken to ensure speed camera schemes cover the entire country by 2004 and that a speed limit of 30mph should be set in villages.

It continued that the Government's decision to limit the placement of cameras to accident blackspots based on the assumption that crashes only occur in these areas would cost many lives.

Hmm, what a load of crap. This is why I didnt get excited when news first got round of a cut back in cameras.

When will these fkg sub-morons in government realise that speed is not the issue? Education of road users and the prosecution of numpties for their exceptionally dangerous driving is the answer to road safety problems.

e.g.

Coming home last night I turned onto a piece of dual carriageway near Northampton, festooned with speed camera signs, within 500m of a police station and a well known haunt of the local mobile SCAMera team.

And what did I find?

Some Fkg Tt on a bicycle riding the wrong way down the dual carriage way towards me in the outside lane!!! Fortunately I was able to take avoiding action, then looked in my mirror to see a couple of other cars swerve round the guy before he decided to move into the inner lane, but continue to cycle against the traffic!

No amount of speed trapping will stop these idiots. I should have run the Fkr over, but his death would no doubt be used to justify yet more SCAMeras.

Rant over.

I'd agree with 30mph through villages though. Although a bypass would be better.

What I'd like to know is how they can ignore the fact that since cameras were introduced, road deaths/injuries have increased, mostly around the camera sites...... Odd, that one.

Bloody politicians - why cant they fk off and go and screw up some other country??

Just goes to show that *did* put them in accident black spots after all then doesn't it? And if the accident rate still goes up despite more cameras and lower limits, obviously we need more of both and harsher penalties all round, to keep us under control. It's for our own good, honest.

I heard this on the news as I was driving to the dentist to be told that I'm going to lose a tooth to bone erosion which is why I've been in screaming agony for the past week SO I'M HAVING A VERY BAD DAY

This Dunwoody woman was banging on about how "everybody" knew that it's very simple, speed kills so all you have to do is slow everyone down and peace will reign and the Palestinians will embrace the Israelis and Osama Bin Laden will be elected US president on a free love ticket.

She was going on about how we killed over 3000 people every year and how this would be a scandal if something other than the evil car did it.

Well you silly f**king mare. More people than that die in accidents in their homes every year and even more again are killed by infections they catch in NHS hospitals - and having visited someone in St Helier Hospital recently I can quite see, or rather SMELL, why. And don't even get me started on how you manipulate the figures to make it look like speed is the problem, we'll be here all day.

I had to turn it off in the end as it was making me so angry it wouldn't have been safe to carry on driving.

Someone cheer me up guys. When I found the ABD and PH it was like coming home. At least I wasn't the only one who was outraged by the crap the government and the tree huggers spout. Today I feel like part of a dying breed trying to speak out against a propaganda machine that makes the Nazis look like rank amateurs.

I'll feel better once the poorly tooth is gone next week. I've got to get the infection cleared up before it can go (damned antibiotics - can't drink )

Sorry to hear of your discomfort steve, if its of any consolation, I've just faxed my MP (Tory as it happens),and asked him what his party is going to do to get re-elected, regarding transport policy, following this load of cobblers published this morning.

Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck.

One of those days where the urge to plant a fist in the telly was almost unbearable. Fuck. Sorry, can't help it. Talking sense doesn't seem to make any difference so might as well just curse a bit.

Oh the shame. I actually agree with something in the Sun. Not that it's exactly a highbrow indepth analysis of the situation but their hearts're obviously in the right place.

And consider: 4 million voters have read that (or looked at the pictures next to it)

I don't often say this C word, but I just did.

We are going to become a nation of persecuted motorists, afraid to turn the fcuking key.

All I can think of is to buy a fcuking 4x4 so I can drive over the bumps wihtout slowing, and more gadgets to allow me to detect the fcuking cameras, and maybe a gun to shoot the fcuking traffic police & fake plates so I don't get hassled.

HEy, and I may as well sell drugs to school kids, because atleast that is easy and trendy, and Bliar will approve, the Cnut.

I am so depressed about this god forsaken country and its moron politics.

Speed while you can guys, the party is over. We're all gonna comply or lose our licenses.

Hang on a minute.

The thin blue line is stretched to breaking point... so who's gonna do the enforcing? cameras? huh. Well, lets just see what new technology comes around.

I bet there will be camera jammers for less than 500 quid. Who is going to check if you have some gadget that kills gatsoes? no one, cos they will be relying on robots, not people.

Don't give up lads - we will prevail, and breaking the limits will never have been so much fun. The only problem will be the cameras high up on masts, but even these can be cut down.

We need to fight, but not a lot of people realise there is a war on. We are being victimised, and don't even realise - apart from little groups like PH.

Sorry to ramble, but my head is in a spin, and it ain't from the beer.

Email me or post something - I'm scared. You should be too.

Carl - its just a bit of hype about a report by a bunch of nobody MP's. A bit like the one calling for the Kents to give up their pad - they took bugger all notice and neither should we.

Thing about MPs is they likej to sya things like "I told President Blair that he should do this that and the next thing, and he's considering it" so that everyone will think they are important.

But what they actually did was write to the commander-in-chief, and he hasn't actually told them he's binned the letter so they've told the truth as they know it.

Like Philshort, I suspect (and hope!) that this in fact is on that level. Bear in mind that for the gov't to implement this they'd have to do yet another massive U-turn on policy which would look bad/worse and, more importantly, cost them the votes they hoped to save in the last U-turn.

I give up why are MP's in the HoC surely they're there to serve the country bl**dy bunch of ill informed, thick skinned, ignorant, jumped up, self important wannabees.
The only recourse president Blur has now, as they've gone against previous gov policy statements, is to sack the lot of them and start again with a few more yes men shouldn't be too difficult to find them in the house
I hope any PH member that has one of this commitee as their local MP gives them grief.
