Clocking question.....
Discussion
So, here's my plan: I'm gutting an old Ford, back to the shell, which will be repaired, passivated, powder coated, the car will then be re-built with a Lexus V8 engine, Toyota Supra gearbox/prop/driveshafts, god knows what suspension - probably something custom machined/fabbed with motorsport springs and shocks; and a totally new & bespoke interior including "glass cockpit" digital instruments.
Since the instruments will only exist in the mind of the computer, I can clearly choose any mileage I like when I put it all together.
The question is: Which mileage?
a) The original Ford mileage? Currently showing at around 3000 (but I know full well it's 103000 at least - might be 203000 but that seems unlikely, given it's an '80s Ford and once around the clock was roughly the limit before they rusted away or the engines wore out).
b) The Lexus mileage? Afterall, it's the oily bits that wear out. The Lexus engine has done 116K miles, and should be good for another 200K before it needs any major attention - although it will get a full rebuild before being installed in the Ford.
c) The Supra mileage? I don't know what it is, probably can't find out, but one Supra has provided most of the oily bits south of the engine...
d) Zero - this will effectively be a new car.
Anyone with official credentials (DVLA or police types) are especially welcome to contribute, I'd rather to the right thing than the wrong...

Sounds like you need to conform to kit car rules, so your new car either assumes the identity of one of the donor cars (for which there are rules dictating how much of the donor car there needs to be to assume that identity), or you register it as a new car.
If it's the former, you retain the odo/miles from the donor car.
For the latter, you'll need to go through the new version of SVA but you'll be able to claim zero miles. Actually, you probably technically need an SVA for the former too.

I've been wondering the same thing - I'm rebuilding a BMW that'll have the shell completely restored and all the running gear will be from something else.
The added complication with my car is that it has previously suffered from a broken instrument cluster, so the mileage on the last 7 MOTs (during which time it has been used) has been exactly the same.
I suspect it doesn't really matter what the number on the odo says, really.

Cool, thanks for the replies
I suspect it will end up on a Q-plate, as no one vehicle is providing enough bits to meet the points score, which is kind of a shame, it would have been nice if the old Ford identity could have been kept, I presume I can't put a "cherished" plate on a Q-plate car.
80085 - excellent, I also remember 55378008, but you had to turn the calculator over to make that one work. Then again, I'm not going to be restricted to 7-segment displays, so I could just put "Big Tits!" - I'm sure the SVA examiner will laugh and not make me change it at all....

Someone clearly didn't spend enough time playing with digital calculators whilst at school.
