What do the PH masses think of this?

Cat C, but apparently only damage to the roof and bonnet caused by hail. Worth a punt?

I thought Cat C's had to have an engineer's report before being allowed back on the road?

If you don't mind living with the dents, why not?

I probably wouldn't buy it with the intention of repairing it, though.

ETA: I think you're right that it would need an inspection, but I'm not certain of that.

I would be wary it was written off for just a few minor marks as the ad says, there are lots of water damaged cars about what with all the flooding we've had recently.

Might need a VIC check, which is NOT an engineers report!

How much was it worth pre-write off and how much does fitting a new roof cost?

I suppose I would have expected cat-D, though.

Yes, I did wonder why it would be written off if the damage is just hail related.

If I were to pursue it, I'd obviously want to see it first. Could live with dents as it would be run into the ground and not sold on. smile

New roof skin for a Honda Civic was about £250, plus about £1200 for fitting (replaced due to vandal damage). I would guess it would cost a bit more for the S-Type, plus boot and bonnet replacement. Could fairly easily amount to more than the car's value which I would guess at about £2k-£3k.

Damage to a roof skin would easily be written off on a car of that value.

It would have needed a VIC, which as said isn't an engineer's report.

Why replace the roof for a load of little dents - just get them filled and painted. It's an 11 year old car after all.

That aside I see no problem with it.

Ok, thanks. I'll google the VIC report and see what it's all about. smile

Opportunity to fill the dents and then bring back the vinyl roof which is long overdue a revival, or just do a wrap, would be fine.

The vehicle has a VIC marker against it. That will obviously need sorting out.

Reckon that would look quite retro cool with a vinyl roof.

VIC check isn't too hard, if you could live with some dents (and there were no signs of flood damage etc) I'd have a punt on that.

Decide which VOSA testing stations youre prepared to travel to. Establish which can see you when and then decide where to book it in.

Itll only take a short while and you can take it unrepaired, providing that it is MOTd and otherwise roadworthy.

Thanks. The problem is, I won't be able to look at this vehicle until after the auction expires. Oh well. smile

I thought I'd post it on here just to get some info and opinions.

VIC check is basically comparing the VIN numbers etc to make sure it's still the car they were expecting, it does have to be MOT'd though, and that's a separate process entirely. smile

Thanks.

I went off and found out about the VIC. The car has MOT until Nov next year, apparently. smile

Why would it be a cat C if it only had panel damage?
