Hi guys. Quick question. I had a double roller shutter door fitted around 18 months ago. It has 2 fobs, which whilst OK is sometimes a bit painful as one is in the house and the other commandeered by the wife for her car (she parks in the garage next to my infrequently used toy). The company that supplied the door is sadly no longer and I cannot see any obvious evidence of the manufacturers name either.

So, looking on eBay, it appears keys are cheap and plentiful. My question is, are they really all on the same frequency (security issue?) and will something like this really work?

From what I've read, it looks like you have to pair the door to the keys, which requires physical access to the door control unit (which is presumably inside the garage) so not much of a security issue unless you leave the garage open so someone could walk in and pair their key to your door.

OK. I see, so by carrying out the process they show in that video, I'm effectively spoofing my current key with this new one? So, each time the new one is pressed, the door receiver thinks its the original one?

If so, I wonder how I figure out the best way to "pair" this key with the door? So as to add it as a 3rd key

Have you got the original instruction book for the control unit? Mine's dead easy to do, just a bit like Eric Morecambe playing the piano, i.e. pushing the right buttons in the right order.

IIRC it's about eight different button pushes. Not hard but you do need the book for the right sequence. Who's name is on your control box? Maybe one of us has the book? If no name on the outside, take the cover off, might be lucky and find the instructions inside the cover.

It depends on wheyjer your garage door uses a fixed code or rolling code.

If your uses a rolling code you need http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140532826810?ssPageName=...

Aha! My fob looks strikingly similar to the one on the top right of their picture (albeit only 2 buttons). In fact here it is:-

So, this means I need one of the more expensive ones, and to figure out how to "add" it to the rolling code memory on the receiver?

Any of you geniuses out there able to identify my door manufacturer from my fob? hehe

Sounds daft, but on the back of my garage door is a plate with the manufacturers name on, model code, colour code, build date etc. You only see it when it's closed (obviously!) so maybe there's something similar on yours?

There's also something on the frame of mine come to think of it. Have a poke around & see if there's anything there.

Then again, it might be a module added on to a garage door - is there anything on the motor?

Nothing on the control unit, but the door is "inverted" to be fitted on the outside of the house (steel beams in the way otherwise), so it's covered up with a nice metal cover and as such the first few "plinths" of the roller, motor and any other paraphernalia is not visible.
