With the controversy of Vettel's overtake under yellows.

I've raced for years - and know that a yellow flag means there's an incident ahead and no overtaking until I see a green flag.

Lights may be used to supplement or replace waved red, yellow, green, blue and white flags. But there's no light for a slippery surface (Yellow and red flag)

The lights were yellow static when Vettel overtook but I cannot find anything that covers a static yellow light ?

This picture of the control panel suggests that the slippery surface flag is available.

I don't think that's a FIA approved bit of kit

It has the FIA logo on it.

Also the site I got the picture from says that it is the Marshalling System developed by EM Motorsport for use by the FIA in F1.

I can guarantee that I've never seen a Red/Yellow light on any circuit and the FIA regs make no mention of it.

Appendix H to the International Sporting Code

Article 2.4.3.4 Other light signals

Light panels may be used to form visual representations of the yellow flag with red stripes, safety car board or other signals, which must be stipulated in the Supplementary Regulations of the event.

Dont confuse MSA regs with FIA regs.

Valid point smile

Still there's no mention of a Red/Yellow light in the FIA regs either.

Be good to get an definitive answer to actually what was going on at the time.

It is explained by XR287 in the brazillian GP thread:

I'm in complete disbelief that so many completely misunderstand the situation with Vettel and the "yellow" light.

It was not a Yellow light, it was a Yellow and Red solid light that was shown to indicate slippery surface. It appeared to look all yellow on the onboard camera, it was not.

If you read the FIA regulations http://www.fia.com/resources/documents/1653003624_... (Article 4) you will find that a single waved yellow flag is represented by a 4Hz flashing board and a double waved yellow flag is represented by an 8Hz flashing board.

Only yellow/blue/red/white/green flags are flashing lights. The boards can also display other signals "Light panels may be used to form visual representations of the yellow with red stripes flag, Safety Car board or other signals" but there is no stipulation that these must flash.

So we should be clear, if it was a yellow flag it HAD to be flashing. It was NOT flashing, it appeared to be yellow due to the onboard camera resolution/exposure but it was infact a SOLID yellow/red slipper surface flag. No cover up, no conspiracy, no bad stewarding just complete misunderstanding of the rules by a lot of people.
third post down on THIS thread.

Single yellow flags are indicated my slow flashing yelow lights, and for double waved yellow a fash flashing light is shown. The footage appears to show a solid yellow light, which is most likely a yellow and red light signal that is blurred due to the poor camera visability and spray.

Sorry missed that post. Ta

Links to FIA regs

I don't have a link to the regs for the race meet to clarify if a Yellow/Red light was being used at this event.

The light panels can do the following signals:

Slow flashing yellow (single waved yellow)
Fast flashing Yellow (double waved yellow)
Stationary red/yellow striped
Flashing blue
Flashing green
Flashing white
Flashing red (R/C only)
White SC logo with black background and flashing yellow border (R/C only)

There is no stationary yellow as it doesn't exist in international rules.

ETA: The FIA will also know which light is showing what and when, they will have been able to see what Vettel did at that precise moment in time.

As mentioned, there's no such thing a static yellow light.
And the lights appear to be yellow statics but perhaps it was a yellow/red and you can't see that on the TV screen

http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12475/828...

So it must be a red/yellow slippery surface light - it's just that we can't see the red part of the light.

Case solved.
