Sorry if this is a re-thread but I am new to this thread.
What is the biggest regrettable sale you have made and why did you make it?
For me it is many but the biggest regret was my '71 Mk3 Cortina V8 Custom, when I moved to China. I actually had my brother break it up and sell it in bits, and scrapped the plate through DVLA because I couldn' bare the thought of anyone else owning it, in 2011. That car was with me since 1997 and I only paid 20 GBP for it, then made so many changes over the year, going from a 4 door 2 litre GXL, to a 2 door, 3.5 twin ram air induction V8 and sooooo many other mods.
It had to go because I moved to China and there was no-where and no funds to drystore it and the tons of parts I had.
BIG MISTAKE !!!!
and you?

Selling my 1967 Volvo 1800S to go travelling in 1996. Thought I'd need to finance my trip but in the end I could have kept in in my mum's garage as I didn't need the money.
Loved that car and it was a reliable daily driver that I'd had for three years.
A DVLA check shows it was last taxed in 2003 so it's either sitting in somebody's garage or dead.

Everyone regrets selling their first car, right?
I had to sell my little clio which was a brilliant companion for my first 3 years. Alas, I needed a car big enough to tow a car trailer so it had to go. It was beginning to throw up a few problems though so the sensible side of me thinks it was a good time.

I once spent 6 months doing a Mi16 engine conversion to a 205 GTi. It was a limited edition serrento green. It was running 309 GTi rear beam and wishbones, GTi6 brakes, 1.6 gearbox, it had full leather trim and running on 405 mi16 wheels. The car looked and went great.
I sold it 5 months later and brought a integrale. The integrale was a dream car from being a kid and watching rallying.
To this day I still wish I had that 205. I sold it for half what it cost to build and I didn't need the money at the time. What was I thinking?

1985 Yamaha XJ700X Maxim X.
A slightly de-stroked version of the FZ750 20-valve engine in a cruiser frame. Like a kind of baby proto-Vmax.
It sat idle in mum and dad's garage for too long, then I got another bike, same story. Then sold them both as non-runners to buy one bike I must have covered all of 2000 miles in.
The Yam only needed fresh fuel and a damn good service.

No!! My first car was a 1600 Capri. Awesome for a 17 year old whose mates all had metros and fiestas and minis .I had to sell my little clio which was a brilliant companion for my first 3 years. However, after some burk taxi driver decided to embed his front end into my door afte he jumped the lights....even though it knockd out easy enough, I didn't want it anymore with a rippled door and rear quarter
