After making the Rear clip in Carbon I decided to also make moulds of the doors and front clip... I started on the passenger door.
Pretty please with results, I layed up a lot of material (carbon and Kevlar) to make sure it added some extra side impact.
I've made the mould for the inner panel, but not yet pulled the first part.

how much lighter is carbon compared to GRP ?
carbon is 1/3rd the weight of equivelant strength GRP.... my stock door completely stripped weighs over 9kgs, however I am making the doors significantly stronger than stock so I expect to only be half the weight.... I did a similar thing to the rear clip for the wing inner supports so they are both stronger and lighter.Mainly I have done them so that I can leave the inner door shuts in laquered carbon cause I think it will look cool lol
cheers, Im rather looking forward to it being fitted to the car and laquered.
For those interested, I made both sides much stronger than I needed, Id estimate twice as strong as stock... as result its 'only' 3 kgs lighter than standard.
I wanted the inner panel stronger as when fitting the electric windows I noticed the panel flexing as it was wound up and down... I wanted to eliminate this.

Cheers for the comments, the positive thing is I am getting better at this
forgot to mention... stock door 9kgs, carbon door 6kgs, I could get it down to 4kgs IF i made it to a similar strength as the stock door however mine is full of kevlar and has a foam core... Im also very pleased that it fits perfectly and wont need any filler or fettling at all, I could laquer this and leave it
Incidentally Id have to laquer it as epoxy isnt UV stable therefore all carbon needs either UV stable laquer or a gel coat.
I also painted the front clip jet black over the weekend so I can flat it back and get it perfect before taking moulds... Im going to make it so I have the option to pull a part same as std or make it with wheel arch vents as per my rear clam.
Xmas is going to be busy
Question is, what colour do I now declare my car as to DVLA lol
