We would like to upgrade my grandson's Nissan Micra 1 ltr K11 Rally car for him to compete in next seasons 1400cc class. Does the 1.4 ltr (1348cc) CGA3DE engine have any significant advantage over the 1.3 ltr (1275cc) CG13DE. Also are both these engines more or less a straight swop. Further more is the later 1.4 engine in the K12 out of the question for fitting in the K11
We have all got a lot to learn so any help would be appreciated.

Be careful - make sure that whatever engine type you swap in to the car was originally fitted to that model in production.

eta misread you post originally and started quoting hillclimb regs, but similar restrictions on engine swaps in rallying now, I believe. If not, sorry I spokesmile

Try the forum link below as a good source of info.

Also, Matt Humphris is your man for rally parts for K11's. Download the PDF. For a comprehensive parts list.

Both engines are pretty bulletproof. I don't think there's a lot to be gained choosing the CGA3DE over the CG13DE. The limiting factors as far as power output is concerned are the throttle body the cylinder head and wallet size!

The 1L and 1.3L engines are physically the same externally and should fit without problems. ECU's are obviously different. The later engine uses coil per plug with no distributer so, you'll need the ecu for that engine or aftermarket stand alone management system.
While you have the engine out fit some Nismo engine mounts.
Also, while the engine is out swap the steering rack for a power steering rack and the power steering too if it hasn't already got it.

Check the regs if you intend doing a micra specific championship for eligibility.

The biggest performance upgrade (not engine specific) in my opinion is to 'invest' in a straight cut close ratio gear kit and LSD.

Good luck to you both.
