Buying P/X's from a garage before they go to auction
Discussion
As title really, been on the lookout for an RX and seen a few going through BCA that seem to have gone there direct from local Lexus dealerships.
Looks like they havent been good enough for their 'Approved Used' so they end up going through the auctions.
I'm just wondering if anyone has bought a car from a dealer that wouldn't have gone on the forecourt, i.e. a part ex'd BMW/Lexus or Audi that was just going to the auction house, and how you went about it and did you get a good deal on it?
Cheers,
J

Not likely to happen TBH.
If it's not good enough to go on the forecourt, it won't get sold to a member of the public. There's a reason why it's not being sold on the forecourt, and if they sell it to Joe Public then they have to warranty it etc which they don't want to do hence it not going on the forecourt in the first place....

Few dealers will do this these days due to various consumer legislation.
It is all very well you buying a car on these terms but when if it goes pop down the road people are straight back quoting the sale of goods act and how "trade sale" is meaningless in law and how you nearly killed their children because two of the tyres are bald.
Basically, unless you can prove you are trade, they won't sell to you and for good reason.

I wandered into a main dealer over the last xmas hols and mentioned I was 50-50 about a newer car or a shed. I was shown around a couple of newish cars and taken to a corner of the yard and offered a few pxes at around £1k.
Though I got the feeling they were quiet and their usual buyer for that stuff was on holiday. Not sure it happens often though.

I used to work part time at a bike dealership.
Trade-ins that they really didn't want were either offered to the staff first or they had a handful of smaller dealers and traders who were invited to offer.
I probably bought five or six bikes this way, all of which were either older or scruffy, and they were all great buys.
These days however, from what I can gather, the unwanted trade-ins all go to one particular trader who buys all sorts of shyte...
