seen a xk8 2004 looks stunning however the gears were lumpy until she warmed up, and the gearbox amber light came on when selected reverse, owner said does that when cold, once warm no issue and smoother changes. Am I right thinking that this could be a electronic re program issue , recall reading that some where? or should I walk away. so tempting as car looks immac, any views please chaps oh car has done 87k with full service, they are asking 8999. thanks

Seller is talking shyite. Those are classic symptoms of impending gearbox failure.

You might get away with changing the oil and a reprogramme - I assume it's a 4.2 XK with the six speed? But not a chance I'd take for 9 grand.

Totally agree with the above. The behaviour described is not normal. A gearbox rebuild could be easily 2K. I would not touch that for 9K. Plenty of unborked ones about for that money.

No - just don't. You're contemplating buying a faulty car and thinking about how to get it fixed. That'll end in tears.

Plenty of much better examples to be found. Have a look on carsandclassic and join the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club to find a really cherished one that belongs to an enthusiast.
