Now I appreciate that little depreciation is a poor reason for buying any car alone, but it seems the RS is depreciating at a very low rate, and this would seem to make it a justifiable purchase.

So any owners or afficionados out there know if this is correct and approximately by what amount? I'd be looking at an early MKII on an 09/59 plate, circa 17/18k and keeping it 2-3 years. I appreciate there's no crystal ball, especially with fuel prices, but any thoughts where it could be value wise?

And in order to minimise depreciation what extras are paramount, packs 1 & 2? Seems few have both.

Cheers in advance.

I guess one question is are they doing another, and how good is it going to be

So you think they're appreciating?

No but if they don't make another I would expect that model to lose less money

I see your logic. I know there's talk of an RS on here, circa 350bhp and five door only as per the current Focus.

Lux packs 1 and 2 BT and USB for least depreciation and resale.

RE the next three years it's hard to say but one thing is for sure, there will not be an RS like this one again. Which can only help future values.

Only if it sells for that price wink & they hold money because they are so rare unlike the focus (which I notice the owner of that car feels he needs to slag off in his advert to make the car sound better rolleyes) the Rs is much more of a mainstream vehicle.

Having owned my RS since new, july 09, i have noticed prices have stablized, even increased on low mileage examples.

For the best package for resale, make sure it has LUX 1 & bluetooth / USB at the very least, leather is desirable although not as hardwearing as the cloth seats.

Mine is LUX 2 with the nav & incorporates the rear view camera so always good for resale.

Then its down to colour, i have blue which is the most subdued but rarest of the 3 'normal' colours, white most popular then the green for the real exibitionists!

If you get on to focusrsoc.com you will find ALL the answers you ever need to know!

In answer to the value you asked, lots of variables to look at but 09/59 with 18k miles & depending on spec, you'd be looking around £18.5k-£20k to buy now & in 3 years time i'd estimate £16K.

Many thanks for all the responses and the above post.

For a new car it really does seem to make sense from a depreciation perspective, easily offsetting the additional fuel cost....and then of course there's the car itself! OK so this is man maths at its best!

Cheers
