Time for winter tyres?

Well, these Schwalbe Ultremos started to puncture too frequently:







so I fitted new ones:



Now I want to get back on the bike again, I don't want to end up shredding the new "ORANGE!" Ultremos in the swarf and grit on our winter roads. Time to dig out the Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons, I think. Due to having not ridden in a while, I'll be swapping out a virtually zero miles set of summer tyres. I know they'll come back out next year, but it's proper annoying to have fitted new summer tyres, and then replace them with winter rubber without really using them. Grrrr!

Why didn't you just put your winter tyres on? I put mine on early Oct I think. BTW, I'm using Bontrager Race X Lite hardcase 25c which I get on well with, used them all last winter without a puncture.

Funny enough I have just swapped my Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp's for last years Michelin Krylion's. The Tricomp's are fantastic tyres but were really beginning to get cut up with the debris and grit on the road - Krylion's proved to be bomb proof last winter so went back on today.

Also gave the bike a good clean over and a coating of light oil to keep the worst of the weather off, I hate this time of year, give me dry and cold winter days or dry and balmy summer evenings - this humid, wet, windy weather drives me nuts - too much time cleaning the bike and not enough riding it!

I was waiting for these to arrive in 27mm clincher form, but gave up. Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps are getting some rave reviews, so I've a pair en route.

I'll be fitting something winter this week; had a nasty moment on a downhill stretch this morning doing 35 ish and a car a good 30 meters away slowed and indicated right, I went for the brakes and the back locked under gentle braking, (it was damp and about +2C) so I had to release and thought this is going to hurt!, managed to hop onto the pavement at the last moment, phew!
