Track day insurance
Discussion
I've claimed three times. Two claims were for damaged BHP company cars that were covered by REI on-track insurance and the insurers just paid out the amount less excess with no argument. The other claim was covered by the track day cover that came with my personnal road going Caterham. What a nightmare. Arguments up hill and down dale about whether the car was a right off or not and what it's actual value was. Never again! So I suppose the answer you were looking for was on-track cover in my experience does what it says on the packet and just pays out (albeit with increased premiums for a bit thereafter) but of course is quite expensive. Track day cover as part of the normal car insurance is a mine field.
All just my experience - others may have a different view of course.

My insurer (Pace Ward) does trackday cover for £65. Since my car is insured on an agreed value basis that is the amount they would pay out in the event of a total loss claim, less 10% excess.
I think Pace Ward are a broker? Who's your policy written by?David White 10 said:

Who's your broker and who's your insurer/underwriter?Horses for courses .... as an example
My old insurer used to want £85 per day ( ontop of yearly premium ) to insure my car on track for the day with an excess which was 10% the value of the car. This meant if you were going to claim it had to be a pretty heavy shunt
My current insurer gave me a yearly premium slightly more ( about £56 IIRC ) than the above quote but included was 5 days free trackday cover and the excess was only an extra £1000 ontop of my normal excess whilst on track. So in this case to answer the OP`s original question ... yes it works for me as I am saving 5 x £85 and getting a lower XS.
I have not had to claim on either so cannot comment on the complexities involved if any.

OP - I see you have an S2000 in your garage! My S2000 was insured with classicline (future classic) who would include trackday cover.
Yes it is indeed for my S2000. I have searched around for insurance companies who include track day cover but they are a lot more expensive and don't cover private track days at the Nurburgring which is my favourite
I pay £45 a day with Greenlight for trackday cover.
The excess is doubled, and the insurance covers your own car only. Other than that though, I've been assured by them that it's the same cover as on the road.
They wont cover your engine if it explodes from wear and tear, but bin it into the armco and you'll be covered.
You'll loose your no claims but at least you're covered. That said, I'd only claim for bad damage. I'd likely sort out panel dents myself.
