A couple of questions for my learned friends! I'm about to purchase a 4.3 roadster from a main dealer, 08 it has 38000 miles on the clock and still got the original clutch, they won't give me a warranty on the clutch, but say I can purchase a second years warranty for a second year for 6 hundred quid ( first years included) Question 1, Should I worry about the clutch( they say they will check its ok before I take it) question 2, should I take the second year option, I'll do approx 4 thousand miles a year
Hopes this makes sense, thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your purchase.Hopes this makes sense, thanks in advance.
Difficult question to answer on the clutch but your dealer has kind of answered this for you.
If it was me buying the car i would push for a new clutch or walk,if you don't you will always be worrying about it peace of mind.
What would happen if the clutch failed within a month?
£600 for a year warranty is cheap but that doesn't cover the clutch but i would still choose it.
They can give you as many years warranty as they please... The clutch is never covered!
By 'check it' they mean that it works right now. Anything beyond that... Well they'd just tell you it was fine and we can hardly expect them to change it as a precaution.. At 38k it's done OK, it might do 60k miles or might go tomorrow... If its at the top of its pedal travel that is usually an indicator that there's a short life left.
I'd have £2.5k in the bank as a contingency fund ready to go. But I'd imagine they'd replace it as a gesture of faith within 3 months due to the sale of goods act.
Life is a risk. Enjoy the car

Thanks guys, pics will follow when I take delivery! They have indicated if it goes within a month or two they would be sympathetic, I don't want to walk as really like the colour/ spec, it's Glacial Blue with Caspian Blue/Article Blue interior.they won't budge on the price,I've tried for days!!! Also a bit choked that I've only been offered 8 grand for my 65000 mile 2 owner Porsche 996 that I've had for 8 years and looked after like a baby, it's only a 3.4 late 98 but one of the best around full spec.
Still onwards and upwards.

8 isn't bad from a dealer for a 98 996... We're parting with our C4 Cab manual soon, hope to get 10+ privately as its a lovely car. Have you not got time for a private sale, that car would shift on eBay for 9995 in a matter of days! Still onwards and upwards.
I'd say if the clutch goes inside 3 months they'd could be pushed into helping you out. Car not sold as fit for purpose etc.
Glacial blue eh..? Lovely colour!
Looks like a lovely colour (this one from your description) I am really partial to Blue cars.
Your local dealer is Hagley like me and you are buying from a remote dealer like I did. You can have the car transferred within the Stratstone group so you could collect it from Hagley and it may be advantageous to get the relationship started.
Roadster in Winter with Christmas coming up and they won't budge on price. It might be better to sell the 911 privately and recoup a few grand which you could maybe put towards a new clutch should you need one. I think they run between £2k - £2.5k but you should check with Bamford Rose so you know what you may have to pay out.

When Astons come along with unusual or rare spec/colour options they will always be popular so why discount?
They may have had the car in for weeks rather than months so again the reluctance to discount.
If its the car for you then you'd kick yourself if you lost the chance to own it over say a few £k especially when a similar specced car may take ages to reappear.
I also think a 90 day period is accepted for any potential warranty claim under Law.

Believe it or not - it's quite the opposite. Most buyers want I AM JAMES BOND grey with suicide black leather so dealers sell these all day. It's become the Ferrari Rosso Corsa with Crema equivalent. Green, blues and reds are traditionally harder to shift, but there does seem to be a push for the more interesting colours since Vanq II was released. Gaydon cars look great in any colour really.
Hi, finally done the deal, they have included 2 years AM Premium Warranty which gives me some peace of mind, plus Pur- guard treatment to the body work. I've done a quick search but can't find anything about it, could anybody enlighten me?
Just six days to wait till I can come out to play

The pure guard stuff can be bought on eBay for about £20 and to be honest, I've not used it and never will. There are better products on the market. I know dealers charge up to 700 quid for some of these products, making a huge profit, especially when the only prep a car gets is a quick wash. I saw a cobalt blue vantage at Broughtons having a sealant applied at the cost of £700 and the car had the biggest patch of sanding marks I'd ever seen on any car, which was duly sealed in and not rectified. That's the trouble when they don't have time or skill to prep the cars properly. You should always make sure the paint is as good as possible before putting a long lasting sealant on it.
If you're happy with the way the car looks and you didn't pay to have it applied, then that's all that matters. Without meaning to sound harsh, but of anyone pays the dealer to have their wonder sealant, whatever it may be, applied they are a fool. Especially if it's a used car. The same money could be spent on a detailer removing all the defects and then applying a sealant. (steps of soap box)
