Recommend a cycle computer

I've been asked to think of present ideas for Christmas so I thought a bike computer would satisfy my inner nerd. Nothing too fancy, just something that records max/instantaneous/average speed, distance etc. It must be waterproof and not cost too much.

Can anyone recommend one?

I've got a Cateye Micro Wireless, which is a little more but can display 2 stats at once which I find useful.

Also worth considering the Cateye Strada Double Wireless - it has a Cadence readout which I find very useful....

If you want to go a bit more fancy and get some really nerdy readouts with map overlays.

From experience

Cycle a bit
Start thinking about mileage
Get reasonable wired cycle computer £20ish
Start GPS recording with smartphone
Notice discrepancy between GPS and computer
Spend far too much time calibrating one or other of the mileage recorders.
Get another bike
Get reasonable wired cycle computer £20ish
Notice three way discrepancy GPS and computer and computer
Spend yet time calibrating one or other, or all of the mileage recorders
Start OCDing about wires looking rubbish
Look into decent wireless computers £40ish – £60ish for it to be useable on two bikes + fittings
Still OCDing about mileage inaccuracies.
Find Garmin edge 200 with two mounts for £80-£90
Wish I’d just done the last step from the outset. It would've been cheaper and I'd have had more free time.

If you go for the more expensive option please don't waste your money on a Garmin Edge 200, get a Bryton Rider 20 instead. It's ANT+ compatible unlike the Garmin and if you get the Rider 20T you pay the same as the Garmin but you get sensors with it too.

Or get a bryton rider 35 for £75 from sport pursuit, when it comes up again.

Only the bryton software let's it down (to get the data off it and into endo in my case)

Very, very good value.

ive got a cateye wireless and its great, but ive been bitten by the gps bug and been using endomondo/strava/cyclemeter, which on the iphone are good but the trace wanders a fair bit.
So ive just got a Garmin 200 for £99 from Halfords.
