Some help please. While removing the exhaust manifolds for de-cating and gasket replacement I noticed that the middle cylinder ports are white indicating they are running weak YES or NO? If yes it's possibly there is an air leak or injector problem.
Elimination list.

1. Clean AFM.
2. Check injectors for the correct resistance and are opening and closing.
3. Clean injectors both ways
4. Possible air leak from around the plenum or valley gasket.

If I lift the plenum I need a new gasket I have seen some valley gaskets on flea bay for Rover 3.9, 4.0, 4.2, 4.6 can these be used on a TVR 4.6 or are the TVR ones cut differently?

Is there a way of knowing that the top of the plenum is seated on the inlet manifold?
Is there some type of ‘U’ shaped neoprene gasket that can be fitted to eliminate any possible mismatch of faces?

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Philip

Valley gaskets are all the same. Rimmer Bros do original rover gaskets but also excellent quality aftermarket alternatives.
Doubt you would get an air leak on or around the valley gasket. An oil leak maybe.
The plenum to inlet joint is usually just smeared with hylomar or similar, just as a precaution against air leaks.

Thanks for the info guys. The valley gasket was the last thing I wanted to change I prefer to leave it alone.

When I put the plenum on I ran a bead of sealant (cat friendly) round the top of the trumpet base let it cure a little, then placed the plenum on it and pulled down the bolts, the stepper motor housing had a new gasket with a little sealant to keep things snug..

The injectors have been cleaned with new O rings.

That said what could be making it run weak ? ? ?

Hi spend,
I have had a ticking sound (like a tappet) since I brought the car, when I removed the manifolds I saw the broken gasket on N°1 cylinder a trail of black soot on the flange face, all the other gaskets showed not signs of leaks of this exhaust outlet is black so is N°2, it is 3, 5, 4, 6 which are light gray, 7 and 8 are a darker gray. Here are some pictures.
