A BIG VALVE IS BORN
Discussion
After many hours of blood and sweat late nights in the garage we have a 4.3 big valve big cam griff
needs setting up now, ecu for a programe and a rolling road run, My is it smooth. After guessing the timing to start it up once runing i left it at about 2500 rpm to bed cams in. A bit to advanced ever seen griff exhausts glow red
. My strobe light is broke i will have to fetch one tomorrow, any sugestions of a good SAFE timing setting to run it on the road until i can get it to a rolling road. Thanks in advance.
steve...........
28 degrees is normal i believe, then dial in as much advance as it'll take without pinking!
32 is about max i think.
well done BTW...repect!
now get it down the Ring and give it some!
edited to say sorry, thought you were the german guy.
well done anyway!

i found a better way to set the timing and it has worked just fine belive it or not, as my piston on no1 was dialed it to TDC and the pully marker set this is what i did.
As i use optimax and 4* and a static timing of 8deg normal and 4deg unleaded (bible)i set the pully on 6deg switched the ignition on and turned the dizzy very slowly till i heard the spark/solanoid noise coming from the dash, (engine not running of course)dogged up the dizzy bolt and it started up instantly and does not pink under load....
Thanks all........
Mine's running 32 degrees, but that's with a Taraka cam and sufficient fuel to cope with it. However, my cats glow on occasion, and I've noticed the odd little pink, but the manifold to cat gaskets have gone, so I need to change them before I look any further.
You'll have to bring it over one evening, and we can have a couple of beers whilst discussing Griffs! I'm only in Atherstone.
