I am currently trying to sell my commuting car but don't seem to be having much luck at the moment.
Now is it just a bad time of year to sell or could my car be overpriced ?
I am hoping its the first option seeing as my car is the cheapest of its kind within a 100 mile radius, there is nothing wrong with apart from a lack of service history which is reflected in the price.
I would like a new car now but maybe waiting til early next year may be the better time to sell, what do you reckon ?

It's never a bad time to sell something at the right price.

What is it and how much?

If it's a cheap car, then in general those will be purchased by people with less disposable income, who will have even less cash in hand as Christmas approaches.

Every single car in the land will sell as quickly as you like - at the right price.

Christmas is coming, so money is tight for many.

Also, your ad maybe crap. When buying, cars that are priced attractively are often over looking if the pics / text look like no effort went into it and the seller is clueless.

No service history just sounds like a time bomb - a car that has no evidence or history of upkeep is a massive risk for a buyer - and that will no doubt be taken into account when deciding if the price is any good.

Taking everything above into account - your price must be too high.

IMO of course.

I've just sold a VW Bora V5 within 24 hours. Was anticipating a long time for it to be up for sale due to it not really being a desirable engine we everyone wants diesel VW stuff and it also had a beige leather interior.

If its advertised in the right place for a fair price, shouldn't take too long to sell, personally I tend to fine 2 weeks is about the time it takes to shift something privately.

Depends on the car really & the sort of money you're looking for with regards to the "FSH".

If it's a 10 year old Mondeo, the lack of FSH wouldn't bother me - I'd be looking at condition. If it's a 3 year old Mondeo, I'd want to see some evidence of SH.

Tough time to be selling a car though OP unfortunately. 5 weeks before Xmas is not when people are thinking about a new car. Apart from me - I bought my last 2 cars in December!

Sold an old Micra last night, 3 calls in 15 minutes of advert. Sold within 2 hours.

Put my Golf mk2 GTi on at the same time. Nothing yet.

Both are fairly priced (I think) with no offers. The latter is more specialised so I anticipate a sell will take longer.

Not sure which car you're selling but specialist cars will take longer as the market is smaller whereas a tough little ecobox is a piece of piss to sell.

Trying to sell my impreza currently and no real interest, think its well priced well written, couldn't ask for more info and pics (over 70) lots of paperwork, I'm hoping its due to Christmas being close too but then I bought another car so kinda think that's not the case, still it only takes one buyer to show up.

Depends on the value of the car tbh.

Cheaper cars are generaly bought by poorer people and they need money for chrismas.

Car is a 04/54 C-Max 1.6TDCi, it passed its last 2 MOTs without even an advisory so its not in bad shape, as mentioned the car is priced lower than other cars the same, ie. Lack of service history, condition, mileage and MOT/Tax length.
If i was looking for one of these then i wouldn't be able to find one like this within at least 100 miles so i don't think the price is too high so i guess it must be that my target audience have no pennies this close to christmas.
I haven't found lack of history to be a sticking point in selling if the price reflects this, I buy cars on the condition, etc, anyone can get a car serviced regularly but that doesn't mean that they look after it !
My other car had no history until it came into the UK and that has been perfect, same goes with this car, i bought it with no history and its not cost me a single penny outside of service parts.
Oh and the advert is on a par with anything else out there for comparable cars too.

Then either you're a victim of bad timing, or you've all priced it too high so none of you are a selling.

I'm never frightened to be the first to drop. Everyone thinks their car is better.

What miles and how much? It'd probably trade at about 1500 to 1800 quid realistically, so it's 2500 private?
