Just about th store my TVR away for the winter (Chimaera yr 2000, 30,000 miles only) - is it a good idea to have it wax-oiled underneath? It is in a dry barn but am concerned now that it is getting a bit 'long in the tooth' a bit more TLC may be in order?

yeah pack the cavities! That's what I do with the Triumph, and engine oil in the sills, which is an old trick I saw once.

Probably not a bad idea to protect it seeing the state of some outriggers in the TVR section. However, I'd recommend using Bilt Hamber products rather than waxoil. I used their clear treatment under my wheel arches and under my sill covers (Z3, not a TVR unfortunately) and it's a neat finish that is flexible as per the photos below:

The product I used was Dynax UC but there are other products too:

From my experience from my last 2 TVR's I would never go near a car that has been wax oil especially a TVR.

Unless it has been totally stripped right back and any rust treated, getting it thrown on top of corrosion is really bad for there chassis. I spent 400 hours on this chassis mainly because of wax oil, it is a right pain to clean back if you want to weld on the chassis as well as well as a surface you can work with .

This was what was hiding under my wax oil last year

I always paint and the good thing is i can see the rust coming through and deal with it before it's too late.

I hate the stuff POR-15 or the likes is far better.

And my previous TVR the Chimaera
