I've always been wondering what the purpose of the cotton covers on headset seals actuall is. I've seen many people fly with and without them and just wondered, do they provide more comfort, for hygiene or is it pretty much just a case of personal preference?

Weird topic yes, but was one of those laying in bed thinking of random things situations.

Most ear pads are Vinyl/PVC-covered foam.
Just because they go on your ears, is there any reason to put up with wearing PVC next to your skin?
