Dave,
Be interested in how you get on with the ceramic coating - which option did you go for? Asked at the NEC and its more expensive than expected.

Since it's difficult to see the manifolds on my car, I went with the cheaper black coating. Still quite expensive, but it'll be much easier to live with than that nasty bandage stuff.

Interesting - Have on my recently acquired V8 Ls7 Ultima GTR and does the job. Was interested in the Caterham r500 but everyone said all it does is transfer the heat to the heads?? From my research its a no brainer for a TVR

Have used camcoat and the gold engine bay foil and been very happy with the results even on the very tight LS headers on the Griff wink

Was reading a post the other night.. on about POR15's heat resistant paint v the others.. they were saying it did what it said on the tin!... not sure where the heat goes though but guess it helps here also.. the silver sounds like it's the best... and only £20 a tin wink

I've made a shield for my AFM using some of this stuff.

Can be cut with good scissors/tinsnips and is easily formed by hand and looks OK.

Have to say that the service from Zircotec was very good. The parts were all packaged well when I arrived and all I had to do was pay.

The finish looks good. Here's a picture of one of the cats:

With any luck it'll keep the heat in. I don't buy in to the theory that these coatings heats the heads up significantly, however the exhaust gasses will be hotter for longer, so a well designed free flowing exhaust would be a good thing - I believe I have that already...

Sorry cant help in scourcing some but if you are after ideas, heres a few pics of some i made myself a few years back. They are made with 0.5 mm thick mirror finish s/steel. You can buy it with a black plastic peel off coating which stops you scratching it as you cut/fold/roll it etc. I lined the inside of each shield with 2 layers of high temp glass cloth, and aluminium perf sheet.

Thru trial and error i made a pattern out of cardboard[sounds like a blue peter moment] then made it all 20mm bigger around the edge, so i could fold this in hence holding the glass cloth/perf metal in place.

The passenger side is rolled to suit the manifold, then folded back at 90 degrees and actually fastens under the swirl pot.

Drivers side uses existing holes near the alternator. Last pic is a couple of my trial and error attempts that i wasnt happy with, but it shows the lining and the "fold back" principle to keep everything in place.
Hope it helps, and possibly gives you some ideas.

Recently bought my new replacement (L/H & R/H) set from JohnnyZ, great quality, supplied with stainless pop rivets and high temp adhesive. He advertises in the PH TVR Parts Classifieds - Cost £81 the kit! He is also a Griff owner and developed them for his own car. Regards, Peter

Thinking further on the removal and refitting of the manifolds and the 'pigs ear' of a job to get the manifold bottom bolts back in, I am considering putting 3/8 UNC studs into the difficult locations. This would enable you to fit the gaskets and then easily locate the manifolds, nipping into place with bolts at the accesible top them maneuvering nuts in place at the bottom! Have found these Volvo items on the proverbial Flebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270991328378?ssPageName=...

They can be cut down slightly if required as the standard manifold bolts are 1 1/8 long 3/8 UNC! I have bought 1 1/4 bolts as I will use a thicker washer. The 1 9/16 Volvo studs will give plenty of thread length. Rgds, Pete

Pete, with the studs are you sure there is enough room to get the manifolds onto them. There isnt much room to manouvre the manifolds inbetween the heads and body. I think that is why people cut the manifolds and just locate them on already fitted bolts. Just a thought, worth checking before you buy.
