Recommend me a telly.

Hi All,
My trusty Samsung has given up the ghost and I am looking or a new TV.
My requirements are thus...
Up to about 43"
Upto about £500
There seems to be such a lot of choice, and being honest, I don't really know what I should be looking for or where to start.
I use HD TV, play a bit of PS3 every now and then and watch Blue Ray movies quite often.
Thanks for your help.
Matt

Here we go again. This will turn into another thread of people Recommending Panasonic. Whilst they do make some very good telly's they are not the only maker out there.
My advice would be to go and get a copy of either What Hi-Fi or similar magazine. Compare reviews in said magazine then go and look at the models that seem to fit with what you want.
Oh and to the poster above. Please read the OP's post before answering. He stated a budget and size. The GT50's are above that price, even the 42" ones.

When my trusty old Sony eventually gives up the ghost I shall just head on down to Richer Sounds and take their advice. If you're not too bothered about the latest greatest but just want a tv to do the basics (as you've decribed) I don't think you'd be disappointed with anything you chose as you'll be able to see and compare in the shop.
Thanks for the pointers.
This looks like a good price. Any issues with this model? Look OK?

Was just about to recommend it, I have the 46inch version and am quite happy. I read loads of stuff online about picture blooming and the 'searchlight' issue and how it's blurry when playing games but (despite considering myself fairly picky, and looking for these issues) have not noticed anything. I'm particularly impressed by the really high contrast ratio and how deep the blacks go. This switched on is blacker them my old TV switched off thanks to deep gloss front.
I found the settings at the bottom of this review:

Pretty good for a baseline...just alter brightness to suit your room. There is a 'game mode' under settings, general if you find the input lag too high when playing PS3 games.

We have two LED Samsungs and like them - not the greatest blacks and a bit digital in darkness but hey...
Sadly, most modern flat TVs bite the dust when they fail to fire up and it's not worth the cost of getting them repaired. That's why I've gone for Samsung as I expect some form of reliability and they are quite compact and very slim for the screen size so you get a bigger screen in a smaller space.
Just watch for the connectivity - one SCART if you're lucky these days so you have to buy a SCART splitter if you have older electrical equipment (that ironically never seems to braek down).
