Aston V8 Vantage or Porsche 997 Carrera 2 S
Discussion
Which one would you choose and why? I personally feel both are lovely looking cars in the right combo, and on paper the Porsche walks it performance wise, but then the allure of the Aston is strong.
I plan on keeping this long term so the costs of services / parts / reliability also need to come into play.

The V8V is more expensive than an equivalent 997 C2S, plus you'll be getting fewer mpg (not important), as well as paying more for servicing. I have a 997 C2S and Porsche state that the service interval is every 2 years/20,000 miles
- I get mine done every year regardless, but it's nice to know that if I let it slip to 13 months it's not the end of the world. Astons are 10k and the cost is greater - here is a decent V8V indy cost and here is a great Pork specialist.
I was toying with the idea of getting a V8V in a year or two but my suggestion is just to go with your heart. You'll forever be longing for the other car if you try and go sensible when looking at buying a Porsche or Aston Martin(!).
If you're around Bristol or London you're welcome to come out for a spin in my 997 to see if you really like it - one thing though, make sure whatever car you get has noisy exhausts
Can't comment on Aston reliability but my 911's not put a foot wrong (although it does like to drink a litre of oil for every 1,000 miles).

Comes down to your taste. AV8 is very slow and gutless IMO for the image it portrays - very disappointing in that sense. Looks lovely and handles well though and has a far better image if that interests you. I'd have the Porsche as I care more about the overall performance package than what people think as I drive past.

Is it really slow and gutless though? Is this based on experience? I can understand it maybe not been as fast, but surely that is a massive exaggeration?kambites said:
Probably the Aston.
I don't much like the way the 997 drives and at least the Aston looks good and has a nice cabin. I'd want to also own a proper fun car in either case, though.
Last year I drove around 3K miles in my car, work and family reduce the time I use a car, so I want something more I can drive on weekend away etc with the wife/friends rather than going for a blast on my own as I sadly don't get a chance to do that anymore. The Porker cabin doesn't seem a shabby place to sit and the 997 also looks good in my eyes in the correct colour and wheel combo. So funnily enough looks are almost equal between the 2 for me.
I guess I am edging towards the 997...
