Not 'feeling' it recently

Is it just me?
Normally I can cope with the onset of winter - I relish riding in the mud and even the rain at times - but I've been struggling this year and I'm wondering if it's just me, or have other cyclists (road or mtb) had similar?
I suspect a throat/chest infectino of sorts, after a brief op' on my shoulder under G.A. in October. It's not acute but persistent - I function fine until I start to exercise and then either get a feeling that my head's overheating, or as I get into aerobic exercise, that the air I'm breathing is burning my chest.
Been off all aerobic stuff for a few days and it seems better, but would like any ideas. I'm f
ked if I'm going to queue up with all the skivers and malingerers at the local NHS quacks.

If I don't feel like it, I usually do a shorter loop and then end up doing more loops of it rather than a long out and back. At least then you can convince yourself you might come back after a shorter time, you never end up doing that though.

See I've been feeling it lots this year, much more so than last.
I was out everyday I could last week, in the pissing rain, in the wind, in the floods. The CX bike is getting loads of use and is a great steed for these conditions.
I'm out with Gretch now but itching to get home so I can get out for a few miles.
I want to be out there though so it's easy at the minute, that might well change. I seem to have developed a cold this week so my rampant enthusiasm may well be tempered somewhat when I realise I can't breathe whilst I'm riding!
I think just getting out there is often the hardest thing. Normally if its already raining I'll give it a miss but lately am of a 'let's just get on with it then' mindset...

Sometimes it just goes like this. You get a week when you really don't feel like you're performing well on the bike and that you just can't maintain the same speed as you could a week or two ago.
I normally find that I'll reduce my mileage for a few days, don't do so much on the weekend and then by about Tuesday of the following week I suddenly start to get going again and all's right with the world.
I agree though - this time of year, coming out of the house early in the morning when it's nearly dark, blowing a gale and the rain's coming down sideways, I often look at my car sitting there and wonder why I'm not using it instead. By the time I get a mile down the road and get warmed up, I'm ALWAYS glad I didn't give in to temptation!

Although the weather might affect your enthusiasm to get out there, it sounds to me as if you're feeling unwell.
Seeing as most blokes would rather keel over than admit there's anything wrong with them, the fact you've brought up the possibility yourself means you're probably right.
Man up and go and get a check-up, it's better to be told you're perfectly healthy and being a girly wuss about the weather, than leave it till you're properly ill

If I'm not properly ill, I certinaly would be after the obligatory hour spent in the local clinic of the National Sickness Service.

And I know, what will happen is I'll simply be prescribed anti-biotics...
I think there is a lot about at the moment, and what there is seems to be hanging around. I don't feel it on the cycle to work but on the lunch time swim when I really try hard I am going through something similar, have been for about 8 weeks. Feel completely normal the rest of the time, just when I try really hard the performance isn't there, doin my head in.

^This exactly.I guess the biggest pisser about it is that, aside from the fact I'm riding better (and jumping bigger) than I ever have before, but I know - in my heart - that the sensible thing is to rest up for a few weeks, thereby meaning I'll likely take another two, to three weeks to get back to where I am with skills/confidence/stupidity right now.

So you'd rather consult this veritable oracle of cutting edge medical advice?
ked if I'm going to queue up with all the skivers and malingerers at the local NHS quacks.Glad to see you've booked an appointment to see "the quack" because you’re not quite “feeling” cycling when the weather is bad. Just you make sure you really eye-ball all the people who are just there malingering.

Came on here wondering if it was perhaps a virus of sorts that's been doing the rounds.
The reason I don't 'do' doctors is perhaps best explained thus; one of my dogs needed a visit to the vets on Monday. I got an appointment with the vet that night. Whereas the earliest I can get to see any doctor at the local surgery is next week....

Mate, can you pm me ? - I can't send you a mail via PH! I've some news about something you may be interested in..
If it's in the classifieds, I've already had a tip off, from another, former TVRer.
Cheers.(Will PM you anyway.)
Back OT, doctor's appointment booked...
I've been totally non plussed about riding since I had a decent sized off at Cwmcarn in Sept. The onset of winter then sealed my apathy for the sport and I've hardly touched my bike since. The last 3 years I haven't been able to stay off it, rain or shine..
Hope I get it back, that bike was bloody expensive

I think an off can be a polarising event; you're either filled with the desire to get straight back on the "horse that threw you", or otherwise experience varying degrees of fear, demotiviation and apathy.Hope I get it back, that bike was bloody expensive
I've been there a a few yers back and the winter (as in the British, wet, gloomy, muddy sort) isn't the easiest time to get back to it, but if you wait for a nice crisp, cold, but sunny and dry day it might all click and you'll hopefully begin to get back to it. Keep the faith!
