. But the car has been said to be a write-off.
By whom? Someone who doesn't know what they are talking about no doubt. It's not a total loss until the insurance assessor says it isConfusing thread.
OP, if the insurer says it's a write off it doesn't meen that it's mechanically not useable or unsafe, it means that the repair cost is too high, I guess that a something like a dented wing could write it off, by the time you've bought a new wing and sprayed it the matching colour a few hundred quid have been spent.
A friend had this with her mums low mileage Micra, the insurers approved repairer said £1500, mum bought the car from the insurer and got a local garage to tidy it up for a couple of hundred - it wasn't pefect but for the few miles she did to the shop and the WI it did the job.
As others said photos, or at least a description of the damage would be helpful for us to evaluate.
Good luck.

Hi, someone banged into my car when it was parked. The guy left his insurance details. But the car has been said to be a write-off. I was wondering what is the best thing to do as my car is only worth about 1000 pounds and I don't really have money to buy another one? Thanks
