I was changing the air filters on my Touareg and was surprised that there was no discernable suction when I held my hand over the air inlet pipe (between the filter box outlet and the engine intake), with the engine running at idle.

I was expecting a mild vacuum-cleaner effect, should there be?

The engine has two air inlets, one for each bank of the V8 (petrol). Performance does not feel impaired on the road.

The throttle is closed, so air volume drawn in is quite small and might not be 'felt' on the end of a 3" bore intake pipe?

Crack the throttle wide open though and it might try and pull your arm in smile
