Striking workers in "inconvenience to general public" shocker. What a totally unexpected result.

They are useless, Ive been waiting a year in january to get my license back after updating after the 10 year period, turns out any minor eye problem and it has to go through the medical division. I had the eye test over 6 months ago! I get a letter every couple of months saying they are still processing it! Absolutely useless!

They are normally so useless I doubt anyone would notice they were on strike!

Several years ago I was able to ring then from abroad, and they faxed confirmation of my Driving License with DL no to my hotel.

I was surprised at their efficiency and helpfulness to be honest.

This, they have staff on to cover it as I've spoken to them about 5 times today.

Not having a go but you've left it until a few days before you go on holidays to check to see if you have the paper part of your licence?
Even if they were in it would be unlikely they could get it to you for tuesday anyway.

Where are you going? Tourists are always told to take it to Florida but I;ve never heard of anyone being asked for it.

We're doing away with them from 2015.

The only time I've been asked was when the person I was with produced their's. Normally (and I guess I hire a car in various countries 5 or 6 times a year) they are happy with just the photo bit.

Try this number I'll be very surprised if you don't get through even on strike day.

Thats the number for the hire company to call to check a driver. They won't send out a new license AFAIK, the call is also expensive, it's about 50p a minute, heaven knows how much from abroad. You might struggle getting a foreign hire car company to do that.

51p a minute, yeah I know it isn't for a new licence but it's his only hope.
As said even if they were in there's no way he would get a licence by tuesday.

Suppose he could offer to call from his own phone.

Don't worry about it, I've hired cars on three of the Canary islands, the only thing that they are interested in is swiping your credit card.
