JJ Lehto (ex F1 Driver) not going to prison

Ive read on the web that JJ wont be going to prison now after his appeal. He had a boat accident in JUne 2010, was sentened last December, and 11 months later he has won his appeal. Be great to see him back behind the wheel of something!!

Valid point - but it would be ok if he stays off the booze! - I wonder if he'll be commentating on F1 next year after his 2 year absence? JJ has always been one of the good guys in the paddock.

Booze and boat accidents in Finland - a summer classic I am afraid.
I kind of remember water skiing when pissed at 2am in the archipelago west of Helsinki about 25 years ago... amazingly no serious injuries.

Given today's policies re safety and alcohol when in charge of internal combustion engines, imho, he's still very lucky to have avoided the klink.

Agreat lost talent I'm afraid; I first saw Jyrkki Jarvilehto (no wonder he shortened it ) at a sodden Cadwell and he utterly dominated the FF2000 race- nobody looked in the same league. Convinced he would be a GP winning driver; what went wrong - other than my crap judgement ?

Well he did win LM in the most epic way. And his F1 career wasn't a fair gauge of his talent I don't believe - a few races in a Schuey-centric Benetton hardly seems a great measure.

JJ was the class of the field that year, and a nice bloke too.

I remember chatting to him about his Ferrari test role. He thought
it was very funny sitting outside Maranello about to get in an F1 car
when he had not even driven one of their road cars.

Driving for rubbish F1 teams for 5 years took the edge
off his driving in my opinion.

This reminded me of a Spa GP in the early 90s which had three more or less Belgium drivers scheduled to race. However, Gachot had got himself nicked for assault on a London cabbie, de Pole was in hospital for some reason leaving just Boutsen.
