This morning, the street was white with frost, and i'd decided i'd be nice and drive the Mrs into Aberdeen instead of letting her wait the 20 minutes for the next bus, i'd been out of the driveway for maybe 30 seconds when i'm coming up to this corner on our street. This corner is a rather wide left-hander, has good visibility, and a massive turning area off of the side of it.... So i turn to her, and say the fateful words...."watch this"...

I turned in, tweaked the handbrake, and begun a really graceful slide round the corner, forgetting about the large deep drain on the inside of this corner... now, i'm not entirely sure what went on afterwards, other than realizing that this slide was probably unrecoverable, pawing frantically at the wheel, and sticking the foot on the accelerator to try and pull out of the spin.

Saved by shedloads of good luck, i ended up perfectly reverse parked in a driveway at the opposite side of the street, having missed the walls at either side. On an entirely unrelated not the Mrs got the bus afterwards.

So, spurred on by this momentary retardation, i ask the masses, what is your worst 'watch this' moment to date?

Not had one with driving but fluffed up a trick pass in a rugby game that left me looking a tit.

Can't remember a watch this moment done by me, I'm sure I have, just none stick out.

What does stick out and I remember this well, I was out with my mate who had just picked up his MR2 G-limited (mk2) coming from a metro GTi it was a big step up.

Anyway, some oik in a 1.2 Corsa blared past, my mate dropped a gear and set off and quickly caught, going into a roundabout my mate utter the words ' this is going to be 2nd gear smoke.....'

Cue, massive power oversteer, a pirouette and facing the very bemused Maidenhead oncoming traffic.

Still gets talked about LOL

I was blatting homeward in my 911 very late one night a few years ago. I had a girl with me...a kind of shag buddy girl type thing? Anyway, she liked cars and a bit of speed.

There's a roundabout near me, loads of space, where you can have a bit of fun on the exit. My 911 had a stability control - you could get the back out a tiny bit, before it cut in.

But THAT wouldn't be enough to show off with, would it?

So I hit the 'off' button as I ragged up to the roundabout, went round, and on the exit gave it a good old provoke, to get it sideways...and oh yeah, it gave me sideways alright - completely sideways, 90 degrees, with the front overhang right over the nearside kerb yikes

Amazingly, we stopped dead in a cloud of tyre smoke, pointing to the kerb, with a stalled engine - but no damage or dramas. I just looked over and said 'oops, sorry!' started the car, reversed it away from the kerb, and drove her home, fairly quietly.

In my defence, I did not at any time utter 'watch this!'

Having got used to popping some wheelies on an FZR1000 my clutch died and gets replaced.
Riding for the first time with my hooning pal Tony after the new clutch, I yell 'Watch this!' and give it a big fist of throttle and dump the clutch, same as usual.

Wow that new clutch had some bite in it... I've no idea how high the front wheel went or how far I went but I know that the number plate had scrape marks along the bottom of it and that I was clinging on for life while wondering how much the crash was going to cost.

I landed the wheelie, no idea how. I'm not sure if Tony thought 'wow he's got good at that' or 'he's going to die'.
Never asked, because while I dont ask, there is a slight chance that he thinks it was planned and spectacular.

I try never to utter the dreaded words... I had to stop myself once when I knew that if I said it, st would have hit the fan. The radiator fan that is, as I could have gone into a pile of manure if I had bksed up.

The coolest thing anyone can do is whilst executing a planned slide, or catching an ice related slide, is to continue talking normally and cooly. Once on ice around a roundabout, with my sister on board in the old Passat, we went quite sideways, and I think I was discussing her shift at Waitrose that I had just picked her up from. To be fair it was quite a gentle slide, just at quite an angle.

Driving in snowy conditions down a lane. There is a turning to the left with quite a lot of space around it. I though I would drift around it in my Saab 95 so accelerated and then just turned left. The car went straight on and hit the bank - luckily only broke the numberplate but my brother did ask what the hell did I think would happen !

Also managed to almost write of an Alfa in a trading estate, took a corner too fast while showing off my new car. Those high curves don't half bugger things up !

hehe good effort! I'm sat in Aberdeen airport, sipping a latte. Waiting to go down to Birmingham to buy a 285bhp/300lb ft S14a 200SX smile so I'll be driving like a granny on t be way home.

Main roads are fine, but took me about 5 minutes to walk down my street, which has possibly 20 houses in total hehe

When I was about 19 (can't remember exactly it was along time ago) I had a 3 litre Granada, I had already mastered the art of opposite lock driving around the fields when I was younger (so I thought), it was a rainy night on our way home when I said to my mate "watch this" stuffing it into a sharp lefthander, the back came out nicely & just kept going, even when I lifted. We did a complete 360° followed by another 180° in the opposite direction after clipping the kerb while braking, coming to rest parked perfectly about 6 inches from the kerb. My mate just looked at me & said "Wow that was cool, how many times did you have to practice that before you got it right?"

I remember my brother on his 100cc scooter when he was 17, there was a crowd of kids walking past our house and my brother was on his scooter waiting for me to bring my bike out, as im pushing it out of the garden i hear him say the dredded words to the kids WATCH THIS then as he tries to pop a wheelie he goes too far in the air and sort of leans to the side then crashes into the wall, he didnt hurt himself but he just layed there on the floor for a few mins knowing that when he got up he would have to face the damage to his bike and the kids pointing and laughing at him
Good times lol

Back in my "recently passed my test" and "just bought my first quick(ish) car" years, I remember being sat a set of traffic lights across the road from a very busy pub. I thought it'd give it full beans when they went green to impress all the folks stood outside having a pint - those sort of folks who I know now wouldn't give two sts about some bellend thrashing a car (as I know I wouldn't now!).

Anywho the lights went green and I nailed it and right level with the "audience" I went to change into second forgetting that the syncro's from 1st to 2nd were a little worn and was instead greeted with the most horrendous, deafening gear grinding noise ever. I coasted past.. let the revs die down, gently changed into second.. and carried on my way. I should imagine there were a lot of people laughing at me but thankfully I didn't hear them :|

Tried a little slide in my MX5 on a mini-roundabout, 1st gear.. Got the slide going, felt like a hero. Some blokes in a transit coming the other way were pointing and clapping, until I lifted off the throttle, straight into the curb because of the opposite lock.

Felt pretty stupid then.

Also had a moment when out on a PH run, was trying to keep up with the cars infront of me, in my C2 VTR..

Windy, twisty roads, 2nd gear kind of thing. Only thing was the car infront was a Lambo, went over crest into a tightish left/right. Threw it into the left as the suspension was compressing, back end slid out, quickest opposite lock ever, slid it round the right corner and straightened up.

Got to the half way point, guy in the car behind me was amazed..

I said those words quite a few times when I had just started driving. The ones that stick in my mind involved having to shunt a frontera backwards and forwards several times to get it facing the right way after I wedged it perfectly across a very narrow lane, and having to reverse from underneath a single decker bus after I managed to stick the entire nose of 740 vovlo under the side of it.

Ah, also the two times that I went wildlife chasing across fields in the dark. One involved me coming back onto the road to find my mates standing there with a police car, and the other involved phoning for a taxi to get home and having to go back the next day to dig the car out and drag it off of the field paperbag

At 17, 2 weeks after passing my test, on country lanes in my Mighty 1 litre Fiesta I came up to a sweeping right hand bend, looked at my mate in the passenger seat and said the magic words "check this out!!"
Gave it a bootfull mid-bend, clipped the verge, rear wheel caught on something and the next thing we knew we were on our side across the road, had to climb out of the passenger window (my mate landed on me!).

Actually, it was the best driving lesson I ever had, realised at that point that I probably wasn`t Colin McRae and maybe I should slow the fk down a bit...boxedin

Not a watch this moment - but driving the gf to work last week in her Mk1 MX-5 as my car was being serviced. Pootling along at <50mph down a B-road behind an X-plate Fiesta, a tricky road but one I know well having driven it daily. Approaching a sweeping left hander, I hit a small patch of standing water just as I lifted for the corner - the Fiesta sailed round in front but the rear stepped out on the 5, luckily i grabbed a handful of opposite lock and managed a big lairy drift, thankfully avoiding the high verge and the oncoming traffic.

The gf screamed - I just laughed, as it is my normal defence mechanism - she didn't know that I had to change my underwear when I got home...

Reversing out from near some shops.

Girlfriend (now the wife) starts giving me advice and telling me where to go.

I say, "I know the width of the bloody car!"

Que: Car wing mirror hitting lamppost. Timing was about perfect. -_-

10 years later and I still regularly get reminded of it.

Last winter, lots of snow on the ground in the MR2, picked housemate up from the train station and spent 15 minutes or so being a chav in a car park with lots of snow on the ground.

Then carried on driving home the road was a mixture of death sentence ice or perfectly fine where they were gritting. So turning into the (none gritted) back lane to mine from the A road I said "to get the back end out, wait till the rear wheels get on the snow before pressing the loud pedal..."

Loud pedal
Front wheels on snow
Rear on lovely dry road
Horrendous 5 mph understeer
MR2 parked facing the corner rather than the road
Embarrassing quick reverse and carrying on the journey

Should've followed my own advice! Thankfully no damage other than a destroyed ego lol.
