Food banks at the supermarket

Just been to Tesco and was greeted by a lady from Fareshare food bank. They are requesting various kitchen cupboard essentials such as cereal, tinned goods, UHT milk, tea coffee etc.

This is in addition to fresh produce they are collecting daily from the food industry.

So I donated two bags of porridge and will continue to donate every time I pop into Tesco even if its just for a pint of milk.

A very worthwhile cause in my humble opinion and good to give something other than money.

Yep, definitely a worthwhile cause. Although coffee an essential? I'd class that as a luxury...

Hence the reason I put two bags of porridge which is good for filling tummies in the morning! Not so they can have a coffee and a fag

Yep, the food bank round here is really popular - it allows people to spend all their benefits on fags, lager and Sky boxes without having to worry about leaving some for food.

We were just accosted in Waitrose. I don't understand why people can't afford food; what are they spending their money on: fags, lottery, Sky TV?

LadyV8 raised our household's moral bar and donated accordingly. (Seems excessive to waste Waitrose tea bags on poor people, but hey )

One was featured on our local news during the week and that thought occured to me too.

A social worker was collecting bags stuffed full of food to deliver to a family - that's not very efficient use of expensive and scarce social workers.

Something like "We've taken some essentials to a family over there; cigarettes and wine."
