Low budget man here, got by last 5 yrs with an old low miles C class estate..I loved it it was a rock but it now has a blown head gasket and 300 a year to tax it plus miles is getting to me....it was ace for work as needed a load lugger over many motorway miles.. I still do but think smaller and reward myself with some fun...why not? Any body out there got any ideas?
I use car to carry tool box, drill box, small reeel cable now and again..if I really need stuff i hire a van...car has to be cool on the odd motorway job 400 round trip on occasion...ace in small twisties (live in cornwall) have something ...er like a motoring x factor...be good on gas and not break the bank...have been looking for 2 months wife is going to leave me if I do not make a decision...type R, MX 5 147 Corrola vvt etc etc....

Golf v6 4motion or a mk4 r32. Fits the bill nicely IMO. Or a Subaru forester turbo.
I thought the concept had to involve fun not a lot of noise, little action and be prone to masses of understeer.OP, ep3 type-r or Clio182 (the latter will do over well over 30mpg) or as mentioned the VRS or anything involving the 1.8t VAG engine would seem good bets.

Have u driven a well sorted one? Mine today was getting past clio renaultsports at Bedford autodrome. I wouldnt fancy long motorway journeys in the Clio either, and 4wd is handy for wet, twisty Cornish roads in the winter. ]
30mpg allday long and 35 if you drive like a pensioner.
Also how much space does a Clio have compared to my recommendations? I think a golf or forester is much less likely to fall apart and need repair work.

So 4.5k and then how much to 'sort' it? Anyone can overtake anyone on a track if the other driver is slow.30mpg allday long and 35 if you drive like a pensioner.

As for them falling apart, what evidence is that based upon beyond prejudiced opinion?
Carrying capacity didn't seem to be a huge concern for the OP given he had a type-r on his list which is a similar size.
