Personally, it looks like damned good careful driving to me... I think the driver realised it was worse than he thought, but he kept his cool, didn't panic and got through OK.

Thoughts?

[Apologies to the mods if this is a repost, I couldn't find it anywhere else.]

Typical nazi police response! That's what the car was designed to do, we should be applauding British engineering not arresting him! Assume the car had a snorkel air intake.

Great, if you know how deep the water is along the whole stretch you're travelling, which I doubt he did.

Nothing wrong with that, you can hear them giggling they knew what they were doing and it definately had a snorkel on it.

Amatures, they need to try harder next time and match this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr8eEWyKQHM

Piss boiling time! The truck is designed to do that and many many Defenders go deeper than that with no snorkel every weekend at off road sites. I bet if he had found someone stranded to rescue they wouldnt be so quick to condemn him

The driver knew the capabilities of himself and his prepared vehicle, unlike these idiots:

I probably wouldn't have taken the toddler with me though, unless absolutely necessary.

The road was closed so driving on it was breaking the law. Filming yourself breaking the law then sticking it on the internet does not indicate much intelligence.

I love this new breed of people we have; the volunteer insurance inspectors and new "I think I know the law" crew.

100% idiots have been brainwashed by the rubbish the news and marketing people throw out.

The person took the choice to go across and do some wadding in this land rover which is more than capable in the right hands, he seems to know what he is doing and was confident throughout the 5 minutes and came out the other end.

Who the hell are the police to say what he can and can't do in his land rover as well as other people. They are probably just annoyed they couldnt do him for speeding.

I say good on him, someone who does not let the light drizzle get in his way to work - lol

[devil's advocate]
So was the tractor driver breaking the law as well? Why haven't the police criticised him?

LOL you have made my night - Amazing video - I bet the police won't try and prosecute their own - just brush it under the carpet and cuddle each other

Looked fine to me, mind you I did try driving a fiat panda up a black run on the basis that it looked like it might not work smile

I didn't see any road closed signs or police telling him the road was closed - did you?

No, but I did read the article posted, unlike you it would seem. hehe

I have nothing against what the guy did, I just think it was moronic posting a video of it on the internet.

Thought it was a ridiculous over-reaction too. He had the right car for the job and was out having a good time.. I fail to see the problem.

Big boys rules. If you know you can do it, crack on. If you think you can do it, consider the consequences, and crack on. If you fk it up, you pay the price.

I particularly like the "water could be seen seeping into the vehicle" comment. Er? It's a Defender, water "seeps into the vehicle" everytime it rains too ;-)

Also, how exactly is it "dangerous"? lets say it got stuck, well, then you've have to get out an wade back to shore. Yup, you're gonna get wet trousers, but i'm not sure that is actually life threatening? I'ev spent many happy hrs wading through deep water with a winch cable in my hand and survived.
