Some guys at work were on about it the other day and they were saying about if you pour coke on uncooked pork and leave it abit them worms will start to appear.
So after looking on YouTube there's loads of videos showing people doing this and it does seen like the rumour is true. It's put me off eating any pork even bacon,
unless anyone can say what is really happening with the pork.

Did you read the comments on the vid?Years ago there was a potential issue with raw pork and parasites that caused food poisoning, that has all but disappeared due to better animal husbandry.
It's a miss-truth promoted by those with an agenda. Bit like the school book in India that says all meat eaters are violent.

I don't think anyone is claiming that the maggots are formed from the coke and pork mixture. It was my understanding people believe the maggots to already be in the meat.
Otherwise there really wouldn't be an issue, as long as you don't have a penchant for dipping meat products in fizzy drinks.

Pork is relatively high risk for parasites because of the omnivorous habits of pigs, for which reason pork should always be thoroughly cooked. The big risk occurs when pigs have access to food or water contaminated with human sewage. This is not generally a first world problem.
I have never tried pouring coke on pork, but I would guess that anything wormy you see is simply coagulated protein from the meat.
As someone said, sounds like PETA scaremongery to me.

surely if you pour anything (or nothing) on pork and then leave it for days then it's going to rot and go weird? Coke might accelerate the process due to sugar content or something but it's going to happen anyway... my coke (i actually wrote cock then, go figure sigmund freud) ham gets properly oven blasted anyway. Turns the beasties into yum.
