Actually not a thread about 'what mic' should I choose, more about what do you use and why?
Been meaning to post for a while now, out of interest. I've been in a few rock bands in my time, and my voice is mid-high with a little falsetto.
I've had a couple of mics over the years, an AKG 3900 and a Shure SM58.
They were both, well, 'ok' to me. Sometimes worked well in some venues, didn't work brilliantly in others.
Recently, after reading around the internet, I splashed out on a Shure SM58 Beta - their sort of top of the range unit.
And - WOWSERS! What a unit. I really do sound like a proper pro through this mic. It is nothing short of amazing, the depth of response, the sensitivity, the clarity. It is quite a 'bright' mic, so suits my higher voice and may not be great for Baritons
but Jesus, you really do get hat you pay for with mic equipment.

Beta 58 is the Minimum you should be looking for spec/price wise if you are gigging. Its certainly not Shures top of the range though, look at the KSM9 ;-) but Its a great mic. The standard SM58, despite one of the best sellers, really isn't the best mic at all, too muddy, whereas the beta58 is crisp.
Audix OM series - Very decent indeed, also consider Audio Technica. Very good mics, for not a lot of money.
