suggestion -
considering there have been many great topics here, maybe the mods could flag-up interesting topics to the webmaster/admin, so they can be retained on a PH forum archive board, for future reference?

question -
how long are topics kept till being auto-deleted from the server.

Posts are not auto-deleted from the server. Some, shall we say, less relevant content occasionally gets deleted by the moderators but otherwise it's all still here.

There are currently 1739 pages of topics in general gassing for you to look through.

As Bonce says, everything remains online currently.

What defines 'interesting' can be very different to different people so I'm not sure it would be worth anyone's time flagging particular threads.

fair enough - but some topics are universally interesting, but go unnoticed, as are buried deep, but if they were on their own board, they'd be like facts on a noticeboard for browsing.

So your'e saying the FAQs here list what types of car engine exist, an the various fuel types that can be used in cars?

i thought th FAQs here were for boring forum stuff or adverts etc, but not a tech resource.

Nope, FAQs are for Frequently Asked Questions in each forum.

So if someone is always asking for insurance help in a Lotus forum then the moderator can mark it as an FAQ.

Yeh thats it - a notice board, with a link to it topping each board here, thus collating all stickys in one zone.

an where members can add general tech info, into unique tech threads.

Here's some new forum board ideas ive thought up - so what do members an the admins all think?

1. 'car accessories' - as in the installation an purchasing of, eg- hi-fi, satnav, speedcam alarm, theft alarm, cd jukebox, CB, etc

2. 'commercial vehicles' - as in trucks, vans, taxis, buses, tractors, bulldozers, etc

3. 'components' - as in the buying+fitting+adjustment of, to say- slip diffs, ABS, extra airbags, engine management systems, traction control, turbo-chargers, tyres, wheels, nitrox kits, EBD, CBC, streering wheels, etc

also -

4. for collation purposes, how about an official topgear/5th gear rotating topic as a sticky - archived then restrarted every jan-1st.

5. maybe you should rename the 'engines' board to being 'powertrain' as that will be more encompassing?

re the car marque specific boards, are they mainly for owner drivers, just afficiacondo's,.any fan?
