I don't think a 550bhp Westfield would do anything other than melt its tyres!

Surely that sort of power can be had from a YB for a lot less than £61k?
I think that, yes, you can make serious power from a YB for relatively little money. However, if you want it to survive and be competetive in top level rallycross you need something that isnt going to break after 1 lap and I'd imagine this engine is as bombproof as you can get for such a highly specd lump!

Looks like a pretty well-specced engine, don't forget the time it takes to build and develop these engines needs to be paid for as well! Could probably knock them down on price a touch if you have some room for a sponsor. biggrin

I don't think it's as simple as that though...big difference between a rally engine and a bog standard engine with the same power...

Before clicking the link I was thinking, that at that price for a Rallycross spec YB engine, it will be from a certain engine shop.......

.....and I was right smile

That's more expensive than a zero time overhaul of an airworthy RR Merlin V12 for a Spitfire/P-51 etc wink

It's a Julian Godfrey engine, so the price is justified, having seen how many guys run those engines in top flight Rallycross (Read MOST of the Ford entries)
As someone said "Fast, Reliable, cheap" Pick any 2.

Per litre a Merlin is probably a very cheap overhaul!

£61k is VERY optimistic and i cannot see it selling especially on fleabay.

I could see a BDA or BDG being worth around £40k for a spot on one but not a YB.

edit. Whoops i added a grand!

I think a all-brand new Grp4 spec BDA/BDG from the likes of Wilcox/Millington etc is about £25k.

A fresh FVA maybe 40 though......

How much is a Ford DFV these days, around the £60k mark I'd guess?

I was thinking the same. Surely this would only sell to a race team with the requisite readies to hand? That's not to say race teams don't use ebay of course, but they normally have more direct links to their suppliers.

I can see where some of the money has gone though. I mean, the dry sump setup and Pectel management / harness are £5-£6K's worth on their own. Mapping on a bench dyno, probably another couple of K, couple of grand in trick manifolds and turbo, but I can't really see where the remaining amount is justified. Racing tax perhaps.

FWIW I think it's over-priced, but, that power is on restrictors and that's a hell of a lot of torque and BHP given the breathing restrictions. I would imagine you're also paying a lot of money for much better transient response compared to something less expensive.

I would think this is likely an engine that has been prior comissioned by a team/competitor who has run out of money/lost sponsorship etc prior to taking delivery/paying for it etc., and hence JG putting it on fleabay...??

It says 'built to order' in the listing.

They've had this listing, or very similar, up for a very long time. I wonder if they've ever sold one?

There was an issue pre-season ERC that could be related to this then....??
