The Missus and I decided a while ago that we wanted a cat but never had the space inside or out in London at our flat and felt it wouldn't be fair. Roll on a few months and we now have a house with a garden and thought the time was right. We picked her up on Saturday and the drive from Battersea to Maidstone was not a happy one
Lola has come to us with her jabs, some food, some insurance and has been fostered for a while so we are told she "will be fine to stay at home alone or a working day". Hmmmm. She does at least know how to use a litter tray.

She came to us as "Flower" which we have changed to Lola as it sounds similar and due to her slightly dodgy history (found as a stray pregnant and seems to be a bit of a tart) it seemed appropriate. She didn't respond to Flower/Lola/cat or anything other than food anyway. She is quite excited, seems to enjoy hiding at the top of the stairs and pouncing on things and bit me on the leg this morning because she wanted some cheese. Even though I've grown up with cats and I know she'll be fine I feel guilty leaving her at home alone and dread to think what she's doing to the house.
It's not right! I'm a man with tools who does DIY and stuff, I shouldn't be worrying about a bloody cat

All unneutered female cats are sluts, don't worry about it. Actually, cats have a fascinating sex life. The male cat has spines on his penis that point back towards his body. So it doesn't hurt the female on the way in, but is agony for her when he withdraws. And it's that sharp jolt of excruciating pain that triggers ovulation. It's a wonder female cats are up for it at all, but they are, maybe 30 times a night with whatever tom happens to be passing by!
Blimey, no wonder she's a bit hyper about everything! Apparently she is still going to be hormonal for a while even though she has just been spayed as well.
I'm looking after her on my own this week while t'other half is working and it's quite stressful having what appears to be a much stronger kitten in the house on her own all day
She didn't bite me this morning though which I see as an improvement and she does at least seem pleased to see me
God knows how I'm going to be able to keep her inside for the first month without her going completely insane and killing me in my sleep.

If the kitten is stronger than you are, prepare to be eaten
It's a matter of judgement but I've never kept new cats in for more than a day. I keep a close eye on them and follow with a box of biscuits to rattle. They are quite happy to come back to the house which they have known for longer than the big scary outside.

Please DO keep her inside for at least 3 weeks! She's new to you and the house, how is she supposed to find (or even want to!) her way home? Let her get used to you and then let her out!
She is lovely - congratulations on chosing to become her slaves
We were definitely going to keep her in for at least a month as suggested by Battersea. I expect she'd bugger off fairly swiftly at the moment! We're new to having our own to look after so are taking all the advice we can get though as she's clearly had a sShe is lovely - congratulations on chosing to become her slaves
