If yes - can you do me a favour please and check to see if a 1" pin will fit through the hitch point and secure safely?

There's no way the one I've used would clear a one inch pin. Even half an inch would be pushing it, from what I remember.

Bugger - not what I was hoping frown

From looking at the images I had hoped it was a case of the hook extending away from the bar for installation and then being slid back and pinned.

On the one I've used, the hook is fixed and there is a piece of metal that slides towards and away from it to allow access. However the internal diameter of the hook was not as big as an inch.

Right - understand now, re-reading the instructions I've found on the 'net describes what you are saying that it is the hook 'gate' which moves.

Oh well, off to think of something else......
