After some general advice if you can share your thoughts...

I've got some fairly large and bulky items up for sale http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/par... which I really need to sell to free up some space. The only interest I've had is from a bloke in Portugal who has made me an offer, however I want a hassle free sale and don't have time to deal with couriers / package up the bits and send. Selling for collection only.

Thing is, he's offering to arrange a courier to collect. This worries me a bit as the items have to go as they are and surely the chances of the bits making to to their destination without getting lost or broken are pretty low. To be fair, he does seem to have bought a lot of Vauxhall Cavalier (Vectra) bits on eEbay recently, so he might well be legit!

What would you do?!

Get him to send a SWIFT payment of the funds to your bank account before the courier arrives -> Job jobbed. If he's a serious buyer he might grumble, but he'll do it, a scammer will run a mile because he can't run it through Paypal.

Any indication of "I'll send you a bit more money and you can refund me the rest..." type comments?

Any possibility for cash on delivery to his 'courier', or before?

Thanks for the rapid response.

Should I avoid paypal then? Sorry if that's a cringing response - never done a SWIFT. What bank info do I need to give him if we go that route?

Latest is that I've asked him to get the courier to call me (gave the PH phonesafe number) as I wanted to make sure the courier is genuine and going to pick up (evenings only as I work fairly long hours) and deliver the many bits of pieces.

I listed these items once before on eBay and got messed around by a non-payer!!! banghead

Ask for a number on which to call the courier back.

Paypal is very much weighted towards the buyer if any disputes arise, which can be abused by unscrupulous people.

I sold a bunch of kitchen cupboards on ebay to someone who was based in spain (ex-pat).

Ebay feedback was good and they paid up front via paypal. The courier guy they arranged turned up when he said and loaded up and took them all away, no issues at all.

I guess there's always a risk but it's not always a scam!

Reply in Portugese - I'm sure you'll be much more comfortable communicating in a language you can both form coherent sentences in!
