well as well as the MLMs I've started encountering another type of fkwittery on the m-ways (and D/Cs to be hoest)...

here's the scenario, cruise set at 70ish approaching vehicle in front slowly, indicate pull out start to overtake and the the fkwitted buffoon decides to speed up... What the fk is that about, with one total cock yesterday it happened 3 or 4 times!! In one case I was level with the total dipstted when he decides he doesn't want to be over taken leaving me looking like a knob in the 'wrong' lane frown

Is it just my misfortune to come across these arsewipes or have others noticed this too?

A common occurance when I'm plodding along at a good pace, clever dick in the middle lane see's my car, decides that because it's a Type-R I must want to race and as such boots it away from me, realises I'm not biting and slows down.

Then does it again. And again. And again.

Your not alone.

In my experience it usually (although not always) coincides with the fkwitt hanging up their mobile phone.

I had the same with a lady in an Alfa. I had cruise control on at 70mph and each time I went to overtake she'd increase speed just a little. Thankfully the road was quiet so didn't mind sitting along side for mile after mile until I finally crept past. Odd, I caught up to her quite quickly but seems as though she only look at the speedo when I was overtaking...

I think it's kind of sub-conscious... I must admit I have caught myself doing it in the past when very tired or distracted. Cruising along in your own little bubble, someone draws alongside and this makes you realise your speed has dropped, so you add a little more throttle.

I like to distance myself well from these type of people.

Yes they are out there and increasing in numbers, but still not as irritating as the fkwits who when you pull over to the right to give them space on an entry slip, come up your inside and match the speed your cruise is set to rolleyes

Happens to me every day . Just speed up a touch (unless they are booting it) , go past then go back to your original speed . Most times they will just slow back down again and you will slowly pull away.

And this is why cruise control is a bad idea when there's traffic about. Controlling differential speed and keeping away from other traffic is important to keep you safe on the M'way - if a driver is reluctant to override the cruise then they're much more likely to be too close to other vehicles for too long.

This. Very regularly.

on the one hand I'm glad to hear it's not me going nuts!! On the other hand more evidence of pisspoor driving standards frown

As an aside (but related!) makes me chuckle/explode with rage when I see a car coming onto the m-way and with A NEARLY EMPTY fkING ROAD zip straight out into lane 2 and sit there @ 65... s!

Frequently ^^THIS^^. I do a lot of miles on the M25/M11/A12, and the number of times this happens is disturbing. I can be doing as little as 60 to 65mph, in no particular hurry, in lane 1. I come up quite swiftly on a car in lane 2, with lane 1 empty for hundreds of yards ahead of him/her. I ease off the throttle to give them a chance to wake up, and some room for them to make a mistake. If after a few moments they appear to make no move into lane 1, I go through the motions of two separate lane changes to get into lane 3, accelerate to 70 to 75mph indicated, pass the doofus in the middle lane, then make appropriate observations with a few to making two further lane changes back to lane 1.

Very frequently, the idiot (usually either a middle aged man driving an expensive motor and using an expensive smart phone, or a woman with a curious inability to look anywhere other than straight ahead) then realises they've been passed by a scruffy looking '52 plate diesel Vectra, and decides that this just won't do. I find myself either being paced, thereby obstructing my planned move to the left, or I get past, only to see the nutjob boot it up beyond 80mph to get well ahead of me. This sometimes results in them staying well away from me (result!). Mostly we just end up repeating the process in another few minutes, as their speed backs off, and I catch them again at my fairly constant speed.

The most infuriating of them will wait until you have not long got past them, and moved back into lane 1, before they decide that they require the next exit slip. Instead of falling in behind me and peeling off smoothly, they will often boot it to get ahead of me, and cut across two or three lanes applying masses of steering input, to get to the exit that the fking massive blue sign warned them to expect a mile further back.

Is anyone actually taught about reading the road ahead whilst learning to drive anymore? It certainly doesn't seem like it.

Like I said, I'm often driving at or below the posted limit, and not in a blazing rush to get anywhere, so I think it would be rude of me to stay to the right, holding up other drivers, if I'm not keeping pace with the bulk of the traffic using those lanes. Is it stupidity, arrogance, or a mixture of both, that sees these halfwits behaving as they do?

Not as annoying as the people who catch up to you in the adjacent lane then keep a constant pace / +1mph with you, just off your rear quarter. Usually when you are just about to pull out to overtake a wagon.

I posted a rant about this a few weeks ago.... exactly the same problem. I've really noticed it since getting a car with cruise control.

Had it happen several weeks back heading up the M1... slowly caught up with a chap in an Audi TT - went to overtake, he sped up. Left the cruise control on and dropped back in behind him but began to overtake again... he did the same thing again. When it happened the third time I dropped it down 2 gears and nailed it past him as I was sick of it! Didn't see him again after that. Pillock.

Yes, expecting V-tec to kick in no doubts, and roll the road up like a carpet under the wheels and take off like a missile.

Answer to O/P, you need to learn how to "pounce" back off a bit, build up some speed, a nice gap, get the drafting going, then "slingshot" passed them, carry on as normal, or just put your foot down more.

Well they do say driving is a life long career smile

It's common knowledge that many folk don't look any further ahead than the end of their own bonnet. You can see this quite clearly by the way some drivers approach a roundabout. Instead of looking ahead for a clear path and driving onto it, they just stop dead and then look.

A few classics I've witnessed spring to mind:

On Friday night, a lorry had shed it's load in the OSL, partially blocking it. I saw it way back and duly moved into the ISL like everyone else, but Mrs/Miss SUV driver in the OSL with her xenons failed to spot the obstruction until she was right alongside me, then panicked and swerved into my lane, forcing me into the hard shoulder. She was tanking it past me so I didn't have time to predict it.

Last month, on a 40 limit urban DC, a young lady failed to spot a broken down lorry in the ISL with it's hazards on and drove straight into the back of it.

Last year, whilst waiting for a gap to join a DC, I saw a lady drive straight into the back of car slowing down for an exit on the OSL. Just completely failed to see it, no braking at all. Bang.

These unobservant zombies are pushing our ins premiums up.
