Have long harboured the ambition to visit these hillclimbs- only reason I haven't yet is that they are 200 miles away - I travel further than that for racing but have never got arse into gear for these classic hillclimbs. Intend to make a weekend of it next season- so advice please- which is the better course and which event is recommended? Happy to see championship round but I am used to the cars from my local venues- Harewood and Barbon- so maybe a BOC event ? As long as big fields of interesting cars am happy. Your thoughts gentlemen ?

I've only been to Shelsey so can't offer a comparison, but it was an awesome day out, no bad points to mention.

To drive I prefer prescott, but to spectate I couldn't choose.

We usually spectate at Prescott for the 2 rounds of the British Hillclimb Championship in April and September. It is a superb venue with plenty of places to view from and excellent facilities.

Shelsley Walsh (although Prescott would be 2nd favourite - tied with Loton Park).

I prefer Shelsley for watching the cars but prefer the paddock at Prescott. Fairly confident that neither will disappoint

Mr Coppice - aren't you based up in Yorkshire somewhere? And don't you drive a stupid car akin to a Lotus? We should convoy. I have been meaning to go to both for years. Perhaps British Champ at Shelsley and VSCC at Prescott...

Mr Chevron - guilty on both counts. Let's do it - will be in touch when event calendar appears.

The '13 British champion calendar has been confirmed for a while now. I think you should do both, shelsley is probably better for the spectator as you can see virtually all of the track and the top guys are hitting nearly 150 mph. A good Prescott event to go to, is la vien bleu - its a celebration of all things French, with some Veyrons thrown in.. I don't think I've missed an event at either this season hehe and will be up at Harewood/Barbon early next year, so I can feel a mini PH meet up occurring wink

Lovely stuff. It'll make a nice change to have the most civilised car in a convoy.

I'll want to see the full racing calendar for 2013 before I commit but VSCC at Prescott appeals - it's supposed to be mega.

Dan - Harewood is a must. I have a dissertation to write next year though so not making too many plans.

Shelsley seems borderline dangerous IMO! Seen some absolutely huge accidents there over the years.

Much preferred Shelsley than prescott as it just flowed better and was faster. You also had 3 practice runs on the saturday if you wanted to be there early.Prescott always seemed to be over subscribed and on many occasions you even struggled to get two practice runs in on the saturday on national events, but it might have changed now.

Prescott every time. That long straight up to the finish line at Shelsley is dull, dull, dull. They should stick another corner in - loop up the hill and back, or something. Bottom half's OK, though.

As a spectator, Prescott every time. Great viewing spots on the hill above Ettores, on the exit of Pardon up to The Esses and on the inside of Semi-Circle where you can see practically the whole hill. I've not warmed to Shelsley in the same way and my wife doesn't like it there, so we don't bother anymore.
