I would think the Diff would be fine.

Its the gearbox that i would be worried about.
Wether the oil pump in the T5 is driven via the input shaft IYSWIM

I think I've seen words on here saying that you shouldn't tow older cars with the rover gearbox?

I've been recovered in my Griffith by being towed, (T5 500Griffith) and no issues.

I'm thinking about buying a decent dolly to tow the chim behind my old Tranny motor home for track days.

If I blow it up then I can recover and I have the use of the facilities of the tranny, (especially going up the night before!).

It crossed my mind, and strap the steering tightly in place, I'm sure that's possible.

Is it allowed?

Mark.

No Peter, it will be fine as the diff is just freewheeling and still be lubricated same as the output shaft on the gearbox.

Just make sure your input shaft is lubricated before locating in dolly, make sure the tranny is lubricated before it enters your output shaft wink

So generally it's a "yes" mechanically speaking but legally?

I gather it's OK as long as Dolly consents and the Tranny is wearing Dollys outfit?

I knew a guy who towed his 4X4 L/R racer on a dolly, half way up the M5 the rear pinion bearing heated up and sized due to the lack of oil, after he always drop the prop, pulled the half shafts and fitted blanking plates, I know you can not do this with a TVR but though I would add a comment. I would try and make the location of the front wheels high enough to clear obstacles while trying to maintain only a slight inclination, some of these dolly’s seem to have the car at 30° plus, just my pennies worth.
