Folks, have an E60 M5 with 38k on the clock, I've owned it just over a year, it was an AUC vehicle and now has the comprehensive mondial warranty on it. Its been completely reliable in that time.

The engine symbol came on in the instrument cluster today, their was nothing in the check control messages, no warning bongs or triangles on the dash display.

It was 5am so I needed to finish the shortish journey I was on, the engine feels fine, will go into M mode. I obviously did no more than a light cruise to get me to the end of the journey.

I'd hoped for more information in the i-drive but there was nothing, the check control was telling me there were no faults. It hasn't been used for three days and its been very cold.

I'll be speaking to the dealer this morning but has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks
Fred

Did you let the car idle for a while before driving off or drive off straight-away? Quite possibly an O2 heater fault - will clear itself. Have had one or two of these with no apparent side effects.

I had the same twice - once the Lambda sensor had to be replaced, second time only re-set. Nothing to worry about, Fred, and well covered by the warranty...

Cheers guys, it drove perfectly so I was not so concerned. I'm dropping it off at the dealers on Saturday as they need to attend to an issue from a service a couple of months ago. They have said as the warning is amber its safe to drive.

Thanks again
Fred

Purely out of interest, I drove the car back home tonight. It usually does 16-17 mpg but tonight it was doing 19, ok I was cruising but I have to sometimes anyway due to traffic.

Does this give any more pointers.

Regards
Gary

Normally lambda / MAF sensor in my experience. Mine is currently on with the exact symptoms you describe. It's going in for a clutch and flywheel after 66k on the original so will see what the diagnostics say.

Tara phoned me today to say you were booked in, also to thank me for the wine. Be nice to them and they'll treat you right.

Ok, the light's gone out now. I'll still drop it in and see what they say.

Cheers
