I'm asking on behalf of a friend in the USA so should be available over there...any thoughts..? Should withstand daily use, two or four door, preferably some back seats though this isn't deal breaker.

MINI? I'm 6ft5 and have had two MINIs - a Cooper Cabrio, and a tuned Cooper S.

Plenty of space for the tall driver, good daily driver, fun to drive, available in the US and quite 'cool' over there.

Check out http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/ for the owners club over there.

BMWs are good in this respect because the seats are height adjustable and go very low

Well that's nice and vague.... wink

-What sort of budget?
-Are we talking new or used? And if used is it cash or finance?
-Where do they live and what sort of roads will they be driving on?
-Are they actually interested in cars? If so what kind?
-What will the vehicle be used for? Will they be visiting the 1320 or the circuit? AutoX'ing maybe?
-Are running costs, avaiability or mpg an issue?
-Are they brand loyal?

I'm 6ft8 and a Mini is a no-go

As already mentioned, most standard BMWs are perfect as the seats drop and go back far enough to get your legs under the steering properly and your feet on the pedals

I'm only average height so can't really comment on the space, but the current-shape Corvette is a pretty reasonable car to drive and they seem to be everywhere in the States right now.

Point taken; said friend was a little vague, but let me try

-What sort of budget?
up to £ 20K
-Are we talking new or used? And if used is it cash or finance?
used; classic-ish is good
-Where do they live and what sort of roads will they be driving on?
Los Angeles - urban mostly
-Are they actually interested in cars? If so what kind?
Yes - He's owned a G-Wagen, but other than that it's been boring people carriers for his family - but yes, he likes cars
-What will the vehicle be used for? Will they be visiting the 1320 or the circuit? AutoX'ing maybe?
Fun Daily driver/ commute to work
-Are running costs, avaiability or mpg an issue?
Not especially - he's got some money, but we all want to avoid a money pit, obviously.
-Are they brand loyal?
No.
