Interesting, the ad mentions the colour and loads tattle but I can't see it even mention the engine size.
The gearbox not selecting gears is not a lubrication or hit it with a hammer fix, it is almost certainly the seals in the clutch slave cylinder, not a huge job just a couple of hundred quid in a specialist garage or a few hours work if yo ucan spanner yourself.
It would be worth getting a specialist garage to go along and look at it with you before you bid/buy.
If it is as described and the chassis is good it could be a bargin.

Probably best budget for a gearbox rebuild and a new clutch at a minimum. Chassis and engine rebuild at worst. (It is a Speed 6 according to the DVLA)
If, as the seller claims, it is as simple as whacking the gearbox from underneath then the cynic in me suggests that they would have done so by now especially as they claim to be in no hurry to sell and it would add considerably to value.
T5s don't seize up just from sitting unused! If the seller is being disingenuous about that, then how much of the rest of the advert is true?
ETA If they cant get the box to select a gear with the engine off then it isn't just the clutch gone as far as I can see.

I'd be more worried about how he restarted the engine based on the gearbox comments. Not turning over for 4 years I assume means any trace of oil has drained into the sump, isn't it good practice to put a bit of oil down the bores and spin it over without sparkplugs to get the oil pressure up first? how long after firing up would it take for the pressure to come up?

It is a six pot so dry sumped any way. A squirt of oil down the bores may help if partially siezed but if I would not expect too much of a problem. This was my Dad's old car - just spotted it on eBay. He bought it in 1999 with 3k miles on the clock and owned it for a good few years (and three engine rebuilds), was always at the dealer having something sorted and looks like it's still giving grief now! For anyone interested in the car, I just double checked with my Dad and he confirmed it had 16,000 miles on the clock when he sold it so it's definitely been clocked. Would make me wonder what else has been bodged!

Sounds rather dodgy in that case, shame as its one of my fave colours for a Cerb.Dom
Anyone thinking of having a look?

I think Dad just had bad luck (and awful backup from the factory) with the engines etc, which should have been sorted with the 2006 engine rebuild that the eBay ad mentions. Obviously needs that gearbox issue sorting out, but being clocked probably isn't the end of the world if the condition and history paperwork stacks up - just worth looking through it all VERY closely!!Anyone thinking of having a look?

If anyone is serious about the car and wants me to find out any more about it's history, feel free to PM me and I can get any questions answered by my father - he had it between 3k miles (6 months old or so I think) and 16k miles. I know he spent a huge amount of money on it and I think the only issues were engine/gearbox related rather than electrical etc. It was well specced, though obviously had the original lights and 16" SP6 wheels when he had it. It also looks like it's had some paintwork - it certainly didn't shine like that when he sold it!

ETA: He sold it privately (must have been around 2003 or so), so I guess the guy he sold it to diddled the mileage before selling it to Agger and subsequently the eBay seller's brother.

If the clocks not right I would keep well clear of this car, it could have done 30k and without a service for the last 14k. (Its made to look as if its just had a service in mileage terms.
I don't think there are any bargains in the cerb market less than £12k, better to spend £13- 14k on a well sorted model.
Regards to the engine start up after 4 years, wouldn't you first do an oil and filter change?
I wouldn't be suprised if the new owner had to spend £6k to put this cerb back on the road.

Fair enough but as V8 Owl says, I'd hope for a bit more TLC before a 4 year re-start, maybe I'm being picky and not fair to the guy advertising but the gearbox comments alone would put me off. Aanyway, I'm not in the market so I'll get me coat.V8 OWL said:

If the engine hasn't been turned over in all that time, could it shorten the valve springs that have been sat in compression for that length of time too? And could that cause excess wear to finger followers and cam or possibly snap?I don't think there are any bargains in the cerb market less than £12k, better to spend £13- 14k on a well sorted model.
