Hi Having some work done on my NA and an option when putting it all back together is to leave the aircon gubbins off. This will save a bit of weight. I only use the aircon occasionally for demisting. Any thoughts? I'm slightly swayed towards keeping it. I don't like dashboard buttons that don't do anthing either.

Keep it unless your car is being used to enter a race series and you desperately need to loose the weight.

It's not that heavy, and is blimming handy as a de-mister.

Does it even work? Most have lost all their gas and owners don't want to spend the money to regas them. I ditched mine and to be honest I was surprised by how heavy all the gubbins is.

I'd bin it - who needs A/C in a convertible any way (although I would appreciate the demisting right now hehe).

Yeah +1 for binning it!
Its just another thing to go wrong imo, plus I have a thing for losing weight. I've even ditched the soft top as I only use the hardtop.

One of the main reasons I sold my old Mk1 in favour of the current Mk2.5 was to get a higher spec including AC. Personally I love it, not just for demisting but also for those warm but wet days we have in summer. It also works well with the top down to keep your legs & feet cool on really hot days.

My Mk2.5 hasn't got aircon. Can't say I miss it for demisting but having been caught in heavy traffic on a 25 degree plus day I would have loved to have had it then. Only miss it for a few weeks of the year, guess it comes down to your circumstances and whether you have the option of alternative transport during hot weather to decide if you keep it.

Keep it. You won't notice any weight saving.

i cant imagine you would notice the extra weight & would miss it stuck in traffic next 'summer' etc.

I wonder if the people that take it off do drive round with 1/8 of a tank all the time to save weight...

But if its a track tool then bin it.

It's funny really. Most of the people who advocate removing AC to save weight (not here so much judging by this thread, just generally) are the same people who say that JDM cars are best as they come with a higher spec which includes AC.

I miss the aircon that my Mk1 had. Great for demisting, and also excellent for blowing ice cold air at you when stuck in traffic on a blazing hot day with the roof down.

I wish my Mk2.5 had it!
